    Mould on plasterboard.

Fix them all...spray with fungicidal wash, wait to dry then skim. Has the board not come away from the insulation...thats what I find happens usually...the glue fails between the 2.

    Which

I went through the Which process once...bunch of numpties. I backed out for one main reason...they don't recognise 'estimates' only quotations...they won't let you provide an estimate only a quote as they say customers have to have a fixed price...I said thats impossible...what about unforeseen...

    Surveyor specification

Yes...I suggested to the customer to foam fix the boards...the surveyor was happy with foam fix and that there maybe a small void behind the board...proceeding with this spec.

Don't want to get rid of it mate plastered over it plenty of times once I've used Zinsser Gardz first...just wondering if the Gardz will be effective on painted distemper.

    Distemper

I've got a wall with a mix of paint and what looks like distemper...some of the paint is hard to remove...some is flaky (I've scraped the loose off) Anyone know if it's ok to Zinsser Gardz over the lot i.e not remove the paint where sound? or does all the paint need to be removed?

    How much in a day

Good to hear you are charging living wage for tradesman. £300 a day is what we need to be able to run business, have family, half decent lifestyle and save some for retirement. Remember we are all in this together.

    How much in a day

Bristol mate... Problem I'm finding at the moment is that with everything going up cost of materials and wages...etc...I'm just missing VAT every year... I don't understand why they don't put VAT threshold up yearly in line with inflation....

Never used it...never will. I've got a 'bonding bucket' muck goes off in 30 mins every time... BG could focus there time on making a waterproof plasterboard adhesive...so that we can dot and dab external walls without fear of damp transferring to the board or breaking down the adhesive. Have...

    Doing damp proofing

They both trap the moisture...sounds like you have been sold the lie...injection are a waste of time...the only thing they are good for is making a bit of extra cash if selling the lie to the customer...which I don’t...just membrane it will everybody is happy until maybe the house falls down in...

    Doing damp proofing

I do alot of damp proofing and membrane and insulated plaster board on everything unless there is water pressure...customers love it...never see damp again, warm wall and they can paint within a few days...plus minimal mess....hacking of is for mugs. K-Rend Rendering disappointed

Bristol based plastering/rendering contractor. Happy to provide an estimate if required.
  26. F

    Surveyor specification

I do agree better to insulate on outside...but also has its issues, XPS for example traps moisture in the wall and I've har I've heard XPS can cause problems internally on solid walls as it's not breathable so moisture pushes internally. I agree with you though external insulation is better...
  27. F

    Surveyor specification

The dew point will be the solid wall...and condensation will only form if warm air from the warm side passes through the insulated plasterboard. There shouldn't be an issue with air from outside condensing on the back of the insulation as it will be warm?
  28. F

    Surveyor specification

Could use concrete fixings and sticks like on the back but not really happy fixing boards directly to the wall no cavity...first I've heard.
  29. F

    Surveyor specification

Celotex insulated plaster board has an integral vapour control layer (not all boards have it) stops moisture laden air on the warm side (in the room) passing through the board and condensing on the cold side (brick work/render) which will be colder once insulated.

    Render failure

Looks like plasterboard mate, you sure you didn't fix the wrong boards
  31. F

    Surveyor specification

Had a specification for internal insulation...fix insulation boards direct to wall with frame fixings to avoid gap where condensation could form...solid wall which has had damp proofing carried out previously...evidence of condensation and possible minor rising damp. I've always membraned...

Why are quotes all over the shop?

Personally if it was my garage I would have insulated the roof and walls....but maybe Mo is happy to pay for the electric heating at a later stage or is happy with his belongings going mouldy...or storing them in insulated boxes? So they didn't prime the walls first? corner cut...you maybe get...

    Day rate

Don’t know where you work Luke...but I’m the South we were charging £200 a day 8 years ago...prices haven’t gone down since then...you would struggle to get a mortgage charging that down here...that’s assuming you are not working 5 days 52 weeks a year then it’s possible but scraping by.
  46. F

    Day rate

Thats £40 more than my labourer is earning a day....if a builder tried to pay me that much I'd tell him to f**k off and di it himself..most builders are on £250 - £350 per day and so are quality plasterers.

    Chechatrade.

Checkatrade getting more and more expensive...only the trades that charge the most will be able to keep up with their fees to be honest I think it’s a good thing they are increasing the costs as it was getting flooded with sign ups for a while and work slowed down.
