the area that is damp is not the area that was treated. The only area that was injected was in the corners. I thought that surely the damp will just move along the wall. I think he has been done but I couldnt say for sure as im not the expert.
Hello fellas
I have just been to visit my mate in london to see his new house. He has had a bit of work done to it and I was concerned when he showed me the damp proofing.
The front corner and the back corner of the house had showed signs of damp. A damp proofing company came in and said...
Jim, does the trowhawk work ok with the white slim buckets?
I know how you say that the trowhawk is here and its here to stay but from a lot of the reviews it doesnt seem like it stays around for long.
Do you know whether the improvements that you have made have been successful?
If so I...
Im pretty sure it was fine when I did it.
The patch was just above the window so you may be right.
Oh well, ill just have to be a bit quicker next time.
Cheers
Im currently doing a full reskim and paint job at a house.
I started last week when the weather was hot and the rooms I were working in were like a sauna. They dried out within a couple of days.
My problem was when I painted one of the ceilings a 20cm2 patch of the second coat of skim came...
Okey dokey fellas cheers. I wont bother sending it back then, although I do think it is a bit cheeky selling me a different brand of product. Ill just leave poor feedback.
I usualy use wickes scrim but it really winds me up when im on my stilts and the stuff falls down. I keep it handy so I...
I ordered some silver scrim from ebay the other day as I have read on here it is good stuff.
When I received it, it turned out to be something called speedline scrim.
I think I might have been done. Is the silver scrim good enough for me to send this stuff back, it looks as rubbish as the...
I still have artex on all of my ceilings. We eventualy want to move so cant be bothered to do it.
I always tell the wife when it comes back in fashion we will have the best looking house in the street.
I have stitched polos, Ts, long sleeve Ts, hoodies and jacket. I get the cheap and cheerful stuff cos they dont last forever whatever trade your in. It just looks more professional when you are all logo'd up. It doesnt mean the customer is going to get a better job if you are wearing your logo...
I have had the last couple of weeks out of work, but only because people have delayed the work till mid june due to finances. I think some people had over spent over the bank holidays. I have a few weeks booked in so I have enjoyed the time off with the family.
I usualy get very worried if im...
I dont know if Danny still does it but you should look into getting his working mans web domination download. Its cheap and it does exactly what it says on the tin. I used it and got my website to the top of google in a matter of a few weeks. It still usualy stays around the first page and there...
I have been using one of the barton trowels as recommended by JR.
I love it and use it all the time. I think it just makes things a bit easier on the wrist. It gives a nice finish too.
Youdo get used to the handle and I quite like it now.
I keep mine in the bubble wrap envelope it came...
Hello Fellas,
Just a quick one. How long do you have to leave WBA before skimming?
I have used it in the past and always did it the night before, but im sure I read on here that some people leave it a couple of hours.
Is this about right? I have got a ceiling to do that looks to glossy...
There are some polish fellas renting a property opposite my house and i noticed earlier that the front has been graffitied with "**** off all polish guys" charming!
I left rated people just over a year ago as i wasnt using it because i had enough work on. I have been invited back for the fee of £10 and they will give me 5 free leads. Hopefuly this is a sign that the website is not as busy as it used to be and people are going back to the old way of getting...
jrplastering, I bought one of those barton trowels and it came yesterday. I have to say it does look a bit wank but if you say it does a good job i'll take your word for it.
The handle is a bit rough, I have the same one on a £4 tile trowel so I think the bloke has sourced his materials as...
I have been asked to have a look at a swimming pool that needs some patches re-rendered.
There is a band of tiles going round the top where the render has blown and popped some of the tiles off.
If it is bad I might suggest knocking all the tiles off, re-rendering the band then re-tiling...
in the past two weeks i have seen two plasterers using a car for their work van. Ive seen them stacking multi up in the boot with all their tools on the back seat. I have even seen them cutting boards down to fit them in the back. Surely this cant be easy. Why cant they swap the car for a van...
Fellas
I have got a reskim coming up in a living room. The couple have just had there chimney swept so they can start using it for an open fire.
Is it ok to just skim as usual or should I use heat resistant plaster?
its not expensive though. I think its around £300. You only have to read through a lot of the latest threads to realise that learning a different trade might benefit you. Combine the plastering skills you have with plumbing and get into bathroom fitting.
james get yourself enrolled at moulton college and do an evening course in plumbing. You are then still gaining a skill while you wait to get in with a plasterer.
I agree with beddy. I hate it when people jump on the band wagon. One thing I hate more than St patricks day is the world cup. All the new football supporters come out of the closet with there flags ready to stick on there cars, then go on about having to support your country in the world...
i put a band along the top then do it in 2 halves. Top half then bottom. Im only 5' 5 so id have to put about 10 bands along the top to do the rest in one sweep. Im good in understairs cupboards though.
i like to earn £80 for a half day and £130 for a full day. I usualy get most of the work i quote for but some say they have had a more competitive quote. If i am short of work i will go for £100 a day but the customer wont get a smile or conversation out of me!
Plastering used to be my main source of income but I retrained to be a plumber so I could get into doing full bathroom installs and general plumbing.
I was always happy plastering but didnt want to end up doing it till I retire.
I still do it but not half as much as I did and at the...
