Just bought the ox speed skim ST plastic blade (900mm), Wondered if it were wise to break in slightly with say wet and dry paper? Corners are already round on this so no need to round them with say a 5p coin. Any suggestions as I just took a bit of worn sand paper to it and stopped, said to...
Cockney one of the lads I work with told me to do sand/cement render jobs with this exact Trowel for about 3 weeks before internal plaster work to fully break in, that's all good I will do so but any other tips to break in away from actual jobs? Will be part of a rendering Job April but anything...
Best way to break in a new Marshalltown Gold stainless steel Trowel, it's pre broken in which I understand still needs further breaking in but just looking for best ways?
Seen few ways i.e trowel each side paving slab or sand paper edges etc until razor sharp. Wondered thoughts?
Also corners...
Hello all
Before I plaster the artex kitchen ceiling, which has to be about 30-40 years old! Is it worth while scrubbing with sugar soap? I will Anyway but Just thought to ask to see if any other suggestions?
Try not to be too harsh
That was my initial thoughts. Check YouTube: On the trowel SBR.
You might just try SBR yourself but again won't know till we try. I'm just a curious cat
Not doubting your info mate but Kirk does a s**t load of internals, he says he uses one neat coat only and preferably leaves it to dry. Mabey he has just experimented and found that PVA over the years was a pain with ratios, two coats, waiting for tacky etc. One neat coat of SBR dry or wet...
Lol, bit of the old back tracking . When you say a rubber sheet for plaster to take to...I too was suspect but like I says reviews everywhere. YouTube "on the trowel SBR" you will see Kirk talk about it..let me know your thoughts then. Coz it's one coat stuff..time saver
EssexAndy said it won't work mate... In Andy we trust. Lol.
Seen Kirk before mate he's a legend and swears by the SBR neat one coat...yet again one of many who do
Man c'mon Boys, I've said I've seen reviews...never said I reckon this or that. I'll try it, if it fails it fails. Nothin ventured nothin gained.
As for over complicating...if it does take then it's clearly made things easier. Like I said reviews with cured SBR says it worked a treat. Soon...
Usual PVA was coat room day before (3:1), then day of skimming one coat PVA let coat tacky and skim...
SBR tho my plan is to just neat SBR it day before then try skimming next day, no pre coat... Seen good reviews and if it saves me slapping on an extra coat whether it be SBR or PVA to control...
Thanks Ian, job turned out good Tbh I have a small ceiling...I'll try the neat SBR one coat then once dry plaster...if fails, well it's only small area plus puts my OCD to bed lol. Take care mate
Coz I've Heard SBR never goes tacky, just either wet or dry but seals it. So wondered if best to put a tacky PVA on after sealed with SBR. Rather skip the tacky PVA tho if possible but don't want to find out the hard way lol
Cheers mate, I've heard good things about SBR and tbh was going to give it a bash for the ceilings...I will clean the ceiling for peace of mind. One coat of neat SBR I've heard day before? Recommend same?
Cheers for tips mate, I'll take this onboard. One of the artex ceilings has a hairline crack running about 2.5 Meters...the ceiling is sound, no movement from it when I pushed up at the crack or anything...would scrim tape be Ideal to put along crack pre plaster and post cleaning?
Great to hear that mate, I'll bare the ratio in mind for bigger texture.
Think the mix Is commonly referred to as 'Magic mix'. How long did you wait before first coat of multi/bond and then multi coat?
Plan to plaster over old artex ceiling. Using magic mix (roughly 70% multi, 30% Bonding ) then top coat of multi once magic mix firms a bit. I'm going to PVA the ceiling but before I do I wondered if cleaning the ceiling with sugar soap was recommended? It's a living room and also a kitchen...
Looking for best way to secure the loose plaster board to house 'facing bricks' as dot and dab loose from board so bit of movement.
Heard best way was few pilot holes and use some grab adhesive expanding foam, if so any suggestions what one? Also am I best to push against the board to stop it...
