I've patched up some areas yesterday with thisle hardwall which has now set although it's not fully dry. Does it have to be fully dry before skimming?

    Large gap above window

I've knocked off a load of plaster around a window to reveal a large gap between the window frame and lintel. This gap was originally covered with a thin piece of wood tacked to the lintel above, then plastered over - god knows how the plaster stayed up so long as it was very flimsy! I was...

    Rendering over wooden lintel

I've found some wooden lintels after I removed a load of blown plaster back to the brickwork. Up until now I've been applying a cement render followed by drywall (due to thickness of old plaster). Will cement stick onto the wooden lintels or does it need scrim tape or something? Does the wood...

Any particular brands? Kningspan seems to be quite expensive and difficult to get hold of, whereas knauf board is available at Wickes.

Sand and cement scratch coat on solid brick?

I have some upstairs rooms where the old plaster has blown on some of the external walls. I've removed it back to the brick. The property is Victorian double brick no cavity. It's not a damp house, but over the course of 100 years the plaster has inevitably deteriorated. Can I just use sand...

    Bonding coat onto brick?

I have put a request out to replaster my bathroom in particular to replace old blown plaster and scratch coat round the window which has over the years attracted water ingress from leaky window seals etc. One plasterer has suggested using bonding directly onto the brick. Would this be correct...

Hi there, I need to rerender 2 internal wall, as the plaster has blown under the windows and needs to come off. The walls are as follows: Bathroom upstairs - under window. The bathroom will be plastered then tiled round the shower bath. Would this also need to be tanked after plastering...

Plaster detached from previous damp issue

I've actually had another look at this, and picked away at the plaster. It appears that the inner layer of bricks only comes up about 10 inches from the floor, above this and beneath the plaster is a coarse clay-like substance which also is quite brittle i this area. What is this, is it plaster...

Plaster detached from previous damp issue

Hi there, I've just bought a house (1930s ish) where there is evidence of previous damp, as plaster has failed in certain places (lower corners of the living room) and has either crumbled off the wall or bulging in certain places. I cant find any evidence of existing damp or water ingress...

    Plaster over artex

Hi, I have artex ceilings throughout, the fan type about 1-2mm thickness for the ridges. Can I just use multifinish plaster to cover this up and create a flat ceiling? Thanks
