    Dot & dab solid bands

Without solid bands on the perimeter of the walls flame can be pulled up the back of the boards by the heat draft which leads to the fire spreading quicker.

    Refurbishment Question

The one without timber has had moisture, be that condensation or another source by the looks of things. I had someone having a go at me the other week when I said not to plaster over timber.

Im not 100% but I think it would be, not sure when the product guarantees were introduced. Interesting to see that its failed on timber

    Over mixing

Over mixing speeds up the setting of the plaster and can breakdown the particles of plaster which can lead to a multiple of issues. Soon as the plaster is lump free stop the mixer.

    Thistle pro finish.

My memories not that good. I chose own brands as well as more expensive ones to get a good cross section and the ones on the trial brought the ones in they normally use as well.

    Thistle pro finish.

No, it’s got polymers in to make sure it adheres properly to the substrates when they found out the additives didn‘t

It was tested on approximately 8 types of pva and none of the tester’s had any issues on tacky pva

If you do use a fresh mix for the 2nd coat, make sure the 1st is really flat. Any trowel lines will grin through to the 2nd and you can’t trowel them out. Also you’ve got to be sharp and make sure the 1st doesn’t set before you get the 2nd on

Are you flattening off between coats?

    Can I PVA this yet?

The problem with PVA from a British Gypsum side is quite simply that they have no say in how it’s made so if BG tested it with plaster they could alter the pva. Im pretty sure we are all aware of the different qualities out there. With regards to mixing it in the plaster, how does it effect the...

    My friends at

Now then “best of the best”, you nearly got away with it till you said I was sharing jelly beans. That is not going to happen The fastSets got polymers added to it which helps with the adhesion and allows the crystals to grow to a longer length and make the plaster stronger than other...

Board is aimed at Low to medium suction backgrounds while Multi is aimed at medium to high suction. Multi is fine on boards as its a gypsum product but it tends to hang a bit longer than board finish.

    Dabbing

First things first. Why do pe think that board adhesive is made if bonding is suitable for fixing boards? Secondly, if you are told whoever is in charge to use the wrong materials either get it in writing or make sure you have a witness to the discussion and make sure you tell them it’s wrong...

    Blebs

I’ve spoken to the scientist regarding blebs. He tells me it’s not a chemical reaction that causes blebs, if it was you wouldn’t be able to trowel them out. His belief is that they are caused by excessive moisture, be that caused due to the substrate or excessive depth of skimming. The moisture...

  28. The Apprentice

    Blebs

If the plaster dries out to fast, high suction or heat, you get crazing and the plaster will be soft. The water is drawn from the material before it sets and stops the crystal growth in the Gypsum.

    Blebs

I’m not 100% sure that they have the data in a technical format but I will ask. With regards to your question on blebs on your bonding, how long are you leaving it before you skim it? Blebs tend to appear when the substrate is still wet, which it is when it’s set, or when applied to thick which...

Bostick plastering stabilising primer ( grit)

Strange one, the only thing I can think of is grease or something like that but only guessing. Got to say I’m surprised that they wouldn’t test it though.

Bostick plastering stabilising primer ( grit)

Grit or should I say Bond-it, bit of brand loyalty here, is designed for glossy surfaces, from silk paints to tiles. So provided that area is clean it should adhere to it but it must be clean and dust free. If it fails on the substrate you can at times see dust etc on the back of it. Failures...

    Shoot me now

If you mean on top of existing plaster to straighten it up no. If you mean on to block or brick to control the suction only use a weak mix, don’t kill the suction or you will have problems.
