Plastering over fresh plaster

Hello all,

I had my first go at plastering.

Took much longer than expected to get on the wall and run out of time in the day. So I had to end after the first coat which I smoothed down as much as possible.

Could I wait for it to dry and then apply a second coat after using PVA or something similar?

going over fresh plaster will suck the moisture out a lot quicker and will need to be more then one coat all due respect you wasn’t quick enough first time you got no chance over fresh plaster

Absoutely I wasn't quick enough but only one way to learn.

Could I PVA it or maybe some plastering primer and then go again?

Worst case i am happy to leave it as is as it come out better than expected.

Yes that meme was accurate. For a first go this tiny area was a struggle :D

The fact I don't even know what that means makes and you do I can safely assume you look something like the attached. Humour me more boomer, it keeps me entertained

Even using pva at this stage for you won’t help,your best bet if you can source it is just one sachet of extra time retarder

Too big a wall for a beginner and the door makes it awkward but good for having a go. Sbr is a bit like whiskey. Some people drink it neat, some with water.

Thanks for the advice, I feel better hearing the wall was too big for a first.

The wall come out better than expected for a first go but the question is if it's good enough to get away with.

I'm going to invest in a speed skim to help on the next go

Give a 50/50 sbr coat then a full strength sbr leaving it overnight between coats. That should give you a fighting chance with regards to suction. You could try some extra time too, will stop you shitting your pants half way through ! :)

Thanks mate I will do that. Also picked up a speed skim today to give me a bit more of a fighting chance

Perfect (y) Get a bit of very light sandpaper 1800 or wet and dry and send down the edge to kill its sharpness. Also kill its two edges and sand them. Good trick, use a one pound coin as a profile on the corners and cut them off with a stanley knife. You want it smooth for use ! :)

New ones come with pre-rounded corners
