Hi guys.

Newbie (new to the forum) here.

A bit about me:
Engineer during the day job.
Avid diyer during the evenings and weekends.

My plastering career (if you can call it that) started about 5 years ago when i started renovating my first house. Im the kind of guy that does everything myself, plumbing, electrics, building, carpentry etc. My portfolio wouldnt be complete without the achilles heel of most diyers...plastering.

I started off skimming the airing cupboard (not too bad).
The did a bit of bonding/skimming in the bathroom (a bit rubbish).
I then moved onto my sons bedroom, hall, stairs, landing, porch and cupboards under the stairs all in one hit (my cousin was a plasterer and said i did a pretty good job).

I HATE plasterboard so i do a bonding coat on all my walls before i skim them.

Currently plastering the spare room. Stripped it back to brick, bonded, skimmed, now im here.

Any golfers here? Id say plastering is the golf of the diy world, nearly impossible for a beginner, frustrating as hell, but leaves you longing to improve and crack it. When you hit that sweet shot you just want to have another go again and again and again.

Now i know i said im an engineer, but i love plastering, as hard as it is, i do, i love it. Id love to work my way up to being a full time plasterer like many of you guys but with a full time job, kids and a mrs to support its impossible for me to do it time served. My cousin was helping my however heartbreakingly he was killed in a bike crash earlier this year. All i can do now is use what i have and improve the best i can researching online and practicing at home.

I know tradies love a bit of banter and im sure a lot of you do to. No doubt speak to some of you soon.
