Self employed payment

Maybe a Stupid question Does anyone know if this scheme carries on till October like furlough does!for those who are employed? Or does the government intend to not support self employed sole trader type business’s after June/July? As they should be back working following social distancing rules! Pffffft

Glad to hear it’s simple to complete.

They have not announced it yet,we were a couple of weeks behind furlough. I would guess probable.

It would be unfair for it not to be carried on for the self employed, as we will be paying higher taxes like everyone else. I expect it will be.

They have shared furlough between employers and govt from Aug so if self employed get anything it will prob be a 50/60% payment rather than more at 80 ..only a guess tho

This 3 month payment is for march April may I think though? So we're still missing June and July compared to employed scheme

Ye..I'm counting from the end of march so what we may get is in my eyes april may and june..
Yeah I think most of us had a fairly normal march but seems a lifetime ago tbh so can't really remember. But the scheme does say to cover march April may so in comparison to employed we're already being stitched up

Think their is a question, says claim if you have been affected by Corona virus.
I know a few lads that have worked right through.this is just a nice top up of £7500 to them. Suppose that's another topic.

The will just be taxed on it in April 2021. Still a free hand out as such I know and Annoying that people will take advantage but that’s up to them and their moral compass.

yeah those rebates next year will be wiped down on this

Irrelevant. It says if you have been effected by Covid. I haven’t missed any work but I’ve booked barley anything in and will run out of material so I definitely have been effected even though I’ve still worked every day

I’m sure everyone has been affected in some way. I had 4 blokes on before lockdown, then they all decided to stay home for different reasons, meaning a loss of profits. I’ve worked through it on my own. One chap started back yesterday on a different job. The payment will be welcome.

Guys I know are joiners, they have not been affected,on a sole new build plot.
Materials have not been a problem to them.

I can see a lot of claims going in which don’t need to be and see it being abused by ghost companies.
If you know what I mean.
Absolutely, for people to say they've worked every day and try and justify getting a 7500 top up is b*ll***s. Would I do though? Yes. It's the only handout self employed will get in our lifetimes

Like every scheme,abuse will happen.

There's a bit of a sting in the tail for anyone who's also claiming universal credit as the self employed payment counts against it apparently. So if you get that payment then universal credit will be reduced/cancelled from that point on.

Yep, it counts as income for this month. So universal credit will stop. The more you look at it the less generous it is tbh

It's the same strategy as dealing with the virus itself. It's going to be bad, but if it's spread out over a longer period the NHS and the economy can cope. Individuals however may well be fcuked, in either scenario.

The chancellor's said a few times that they can't protect all jobs and businesses. But if they can delay some of the redundancies and bankruptcies then I guess the hope is that they will be picked up by recoveries elsewhere.

It's just an extreme example of 'business as usual' in that you have to look after yourself because no one else is going to.

How is it less generous? There have done more and beyond to help.no country in the world is helping more and I'm saying that as somebody who is hardly getting any! And even if somebody has worked every day there still have a right to claim as it might effect them in the long run as in sourcing materials and booking work in so might aswell claim now whilst there are giving it to cover them times.it will end and then might not have owt booked in or get materials etc,not immoral wrong with claiming at all if worked through it

I get F-All. You have to do an on-line qualifying check first and I failed. As a relatively new start-up from nothing business, and being an older and slower fart, I've had a slim 3 years with little profit, so it didn't take much "non-trade" income to cross the 50% threshold.
So in theory I've lost nearly 50% of my income but not done a stroke of work since before shitdown. But paid out for Van mot, insurance, road tax, HETAs insurance, HETAS renewal course (cancelled), and the HETAS membership bill has just come in.
Luckily, the wife is working and I've never expected anything from the Govt. except bills. I'm OK, and I'm not going down, Ever.
