So I've done a hallway today, ceiling, 3 walls (one was already plastered as I work for the guy before) a lot of angles, stop beads around the edge of ceiling etc. Messaged him with 210 price which I think is cheap but anyway, he says to me that why is he paying £60 on top of my wages. I'm like, you wanted me to get material too... so he says he cant believe that material was that much and that he's shopping around a lot and he knows the prices. Why people don't understand these things? I not even charged him for scrim , luckily he said he'll pay anyway but I bad taste stays. Have you guys had cases like this ? Cheers

Put it down to experience, never work for him again, and resolve to agree a price for other customers' jobs before you do them.

So you gave him the price after you finished the work!!
I do it the other way around

I worked for him before and I think he was expecting me to pay for material of my own money lol

I'm always giving price first, that was the only time I done it

£150 for a hallway??

When I quote a job I always say the price is gunna be so and so all in so they know it's for labor and materials, so there's no confusion I also tell them I bring my own mug with me in case they pop the kettle on

Don't trust anyone even if you think you know them,
Local old school trustworthy builder I know I have done several jobs for, talking about extensions 5K plus jobs, asked me to come and have a look at a job last summer I went round said I can't really give you bang on price mate but I'll give you a rough idea to budget too I said you would be looking at about 5 Grand,
When it was built I went back and gave him a fixed price there was two large walls built which was originally going to be glazing so the job came to 7000, he understood the circumstances and we agreed on cash no invoice shook hands old school a man's word is his bond,
Finished a week has gone I no mention of my money so I went round said where's my money mate he said I'll sort it tonight how much 7 grand you said five, the c**t said,
Anyway the mood changed and I got my money,
never again even if you think you know them.

£150 too cheap for labour and £60 is a joke for the materials is way over the top. You know, we know, and it turns out he knows that you'd have never used anywhere near £60 materials on that

How much would you charge then?
More than £150 it’s like Tom says below your running round sourcing materials & quoting ect its a days work cus you wouldn’t then drive to another job and get that done. Take off 2 lots of fuel money and tax and there ain’t a lot left for you is there

He still has to fetch the materials and load them on his van.

Why not its all about profit not beer money.
Because the customer has realised that he's doubled the actual cost of the materials and is now pissed off. Probably lost future work over being greedy. That's probably why not lol

I had to get pva, skim, beads, dustsheets etc so I don't know how you expect me to charge less if this is few quid more than I actually paid.
What self respecting plasterer doesn't already have all of those things? Yes you still charge for it but Christ £60 for a days materials skimming a little hallway? Lol

f**k em i bet they dont work for nothing.
Thing is it's all very well taking the piss abit if you send off a quote and they accept it, but to do the job then double cost of materials is abit silly

Yes but thats his perogative. They still have to be paid for in the long run
