Plastering over old plasterboard

Hi, I hope someone can help.

Im currently renovating a bungalow that's about 60 years old. As I was removing the wallpaper from the ceiling the plaster came away with it, with great ease, so now it's back down to the plasterboard.

I just wondered if it's ok to plaster over that plasterboard even though it has been plastered over before?

Thanks for reading

Nah i would rip it down and re board

If it's come off that easy, there may be a problem.
Prob easiest to strip (as it sounds like it's falling off anyway) and overboard.

Yeah, it's pretty much falling off. Not sure what plaster they used but it's grey coloured. But because it's coming off so easily it has left the plasterboard clean, almost like new.

I think I am going to replace the boards, seems like the best option.

Thanks for the advice

Yeah that is what I would do :D Start a fresh

I.ve had grey skim (and pink to be honest lol)come of on me on a re skim once . It was on plaster board . I pva.d n went again . Then found out it had happened in a few houses on that estate

Done loads. Seen it happen to ceilings over the years. You can tap surface and plaster shatters and falls off. I just seal plasterboard then plaster. I think the original plaster was applied in the cold winter with the damp air and slow drying and has caused the plaster to not stick. The board is dry and solid so know problems to skim. Thin Pva and skim but if you are really worried about this then blue grit it and skim. Why remove a perfectly good ceiling. Jmo
