if it feel gritty it could be down to the sponge not being cleaned properly , coz i`ve worked with loads of different plasterers most use a brush but the ones who have mastered the sponge would never go back to a brush, when i work with a new plasterer i always watch to see if they do anything...

Come on mate they do the same job u use them both for finishing ,I know not a lot of people use sponges but you really can put more on with one , I got showed the way 10 years ago , go on try it you might even like it ;)

I always 1 coat with a sponge just make the plaster slightly thicker than u usually would after a few mixes you'l get used to it , I swear by it mate it's much easier on your arm as well , just spread it on the wall flatten it out wait 20 minutes then sponge and plasterers instinct will kick for...

If you can't tell the difference why would you sub out to sponge plasterers mate? I'm not on here to argue with other plasterers just to share my tips and hopefully learn some my self

Always one coat mate with a sponge I can knock a 3 bagger up and put it all on in 1 with 1 coat and a sponge just make sure the plaster is slightly thicker than u would usually make it bud

aye a know av mate av just finished a 50 room hotel took me and my partner 6 weeks but it had a sh*t load of bonding and dot and dab to do before we started skimming it , just waiting on 7 big houses off a building firm to do but the paper work and funds have to be sorted before we can start ...
