According to instructions I had with a set they are for hanging lights from. Never felt the need to though.

    Finding A Lad.

I started my training in prison and to be truthful you aren't encouraged on to a training course for your future. More money can be earned in the other workshops that the prison make money on, electrical assembly, woodwork shop, etc. Wages in a prison training scheme were about a quarter of the...

    Angled hawk/handboard

Not just for big trowels. If you're putting on a large hit you don't spend so much time back at the spot board. Never been able to rest mine on my forearm like they recommend but I still spin the bugger.

    Marshalltown mpb13gsd. Is this correct??

My MT 16 gold took ages to wear in but is a damned good trowel. Just bought 16 Nela premium and was surprised to find you can use them straight out of the packaging. Love the 'cork' handle as well, absolutely hate the Durasoft handles, just can't seem to grip them properly so both my Gold and...

    nice local advert

I quote there and then. Everything is written down, labour, materials. Always allow a little extra for unforeseen issues. I normally get a booking there and then. Into the calendar and the Work board.

Don't you just love builders merchants!!

I always go to Wickes, buying from Sydenhams, TP or Jewsons is a pain. All the parking is taken by the staff and you have to hunt around for yard staff to get a bloody ticket before you can buy anything. Salisbury is crap for builders merchants.

    Is plastering worth doing?

Hi, I had to do this stuff for a little while when I was training as a plasterer. You have to ask yourself how much demand for traditional plastering in your area. Can you get into the English Heritage/National Trust list for craftsmen and how far are you willing to travel if you continue to...

Anyone got a job coming up .....

The guys who do the one week course tend to screw up quickly and spectacularly though don't they. How many times have you been called in by a potential customer to put right a f#ck up done by one. My price more than doubles.

    Plastering hand

I find that only the cheaper black PB screws leave splinters in my fingers. The gold coloured ones seem fine.

    Tax Paid.

If HMRC want my money they should be helping me load materials on a cold, wet miserable morning and taking my tools into the job as well, freeloading bastards

    Plastering hand

My missus used to whinge about the state of my hands until I finally started to use the latex gloves from the builders merchant. They were absolute shite but I had promised her that I'd stick with it. I tried different suppliers and found the bastards would always rip while I was working...

    Hi Guys,

Hi, been looking through the posts for a while now, about time I introduced myself. I have been plastering now for just over 20 years, I don't do large sitework any more. Mainly domestic with a few jobs for local builders that I trust. Originally got involved in training up in HMP The Verne...
