Thank you for the replies , the ceiling is sound and has not pulled anywere ,you can not push it up . I have had a look in the loft and the joist's are not level , there not far off a match for the ceiling below . I've not used EML on a ceiling before , if i use it whats the best way to fix it...

That would be my normal method or remove it completely but the old boy spent days getting all the paint off , just don't want to tell him it was a wast of his time
