Lime or Not To Lime - That is the Question

I understand this but was told it stops small cracks as more flexible.... Besides that does it make it easier to apply with the lime added or is it the same as the plasticiser? Thanks for your time

Lime or Not To Lime - That is the Question

Thanks again. It's. It cracking... I mean stop future cracking with movement in an old house. So will adding lime make it lighter and easier to put on or the same as with plasticiser? Should I go 5-1 or go 5-1-1 with the lime and leave out plasticiser?

Lime or Not To Lime - That is the Question

evening All, I've had some good advice and need just a little more. I'm doing an internal s/c render and have the scratch coat on the walls. I used 4-1 with plasticiser for that coat. I plan to do the next coat tomorrow and need to know if I should add hydrated lime. I've got a bag already...

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

Thanks to everyone for the input. I shall try in the morning with the mixer to go with 4 sand, 1 cement, 1 water with plasticiser. Let mix for about ten mins as suggested... Should I dry mix first then add water or put half water in first so cement doesn't stick to inside of drum?

Thanks pal, What mix would you make for that brick wall in your picture? I just want to make sure I add the correct amount of water... someone said 4 sand/1 cement / 1 water? Have a great day

Evening Cornelius, So I've taken your advice and hired a cement mixer. Any further advice on the perfect mix with this machine? Thanks again

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

Would a 1/2 bag cement mixer do the job as I could hire one for the weekend? Cheers

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

Thanks pal... Perhaps I'm just not mixing hard enough like you say... I'm doing everything else you say and have plastering sand etc. I will give it another go tomorrow and see how I get on....

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

All jokes aside... do you really suggest putting fairy in the mix? I've seen so many negative reports online and even on this forum about it? How can I mix it by hand to get a great creamy mix. Should I add hydrated lime as well as plasticiser?

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

I was told never to put washing up liquid in as the plasticiser will put the air in the mix so no need for washing up liquid?

Sorry and should it be hydrated lime?

    Sand Cement Internal - Creamy

Thanks guys. I've only got a small wall so renting a mixer is still not an option. Should I add lime even if using plasticiser as it says don't add lime on the instructions?
