Help, lime based pebble like surface, sanding?

Just in case anyone reads this about sanding lime plaster. I wouldn't use a sand float. I tried and it scratched the surface (I had pretty coarse papre tho). I used a jitterbug or vibrating sander 120 grit and it was fine. Product used was USG Diamond plaster.

Help, lime based pebble like surface, sanding?

Thank you Loren, I agree think the bags were bad or moister. I actually was able to sand the walls smooth. I was pretty put out, at first. I thought I was going to have to re-skim or hang paper. I used 120 sandpaper and a jitter bug sander. The walls turned out pretty nice. I got a real bad...

    Kitchen Plastering Advice

I am not a plasterer. There are also other things to consider. Are you changing your cabinets? Remember you will lose 4 or more inches per framed wall. You can "fur" the wall and not lose as much, but not have as much insulation. Are you going to rewire? If you rewire you may need to build or...

Help, lime based pebble like surface, sanding?

I have many troubles. First, when I put the plaster on, I was getting small pebble like places. I thought it was either, mud not mixed well, or bubbles. They didn't (break open) like non-mixed mud, so I thought they were bubbles. They didn't go away. The places are pretty smooth, but I can see...

    primer for lime based plaster

OK. This is new diamond plaster. Been up about 8 months. I have misted the plaster with the cheapest flat paint water mix. Then i Put on a Second primer coat with zinsser's bulls eye 123. Now, I am wondering if that was ok. If it seals stains, will the plaster still breath? I used two coats of...

I do contracting, remodeling. I am not a full time plasterer. But here in the states plaster is not used much. Drywall and mud. Some of the higher class and older homes use plaster. I have an older home. :RpS_laugh:.

it a powder mix here in the states. I guess it is like a mix of plaster & drywall mud. It sets in a short time, but it is sandable. They have different setting times. 5 min to 90 min. It is really called easy sand (then time limit 5, 20, 45, 90). I wouldn't use it to plaster a wall, but I use it...

    mist coat powder

Thanks Jessop. I was a little worried about the paint sticking to the mist coat because it seems to keep turning to powder. It could be me just worrying. Should I dilute the 123 for a second mist coat?

    mist coat powder

Hello i Misted new plaster that's been up about 8 months. I filled places with "hot mud" easy sand. I then sanded the whole wall with fine sand paper, by hand. I then dusted the wall and it seems as if the dust will not stop coming. I washed the wall with a damp sur line painting tool. It keeps...

Hello my name is Rex. I live in the states. I have done construction for about 25 years; mostly remodeling. My wife and I just bought an old Victorian style home. I have never done plaster before. This house has wood lath plaster. I have fixed two rooms, from a botched sand swirl, prior Owner...
