for me the key is in the spreading the flatter the better and pressure is a must obviously not when its wet. how many times do you trowel your gauging???
I have a 14" gold trowel its costs a bit more than a permashape but its lasted over 3 years, it doesnt mark as easy if it gets knocked and they dont erode any where near as much only down side is its a takes a bit more work to break in. In other words a rekon its the muts nuts.
i put dirty water in out of me water buket (after i have spent a day cleaning my trowel in it) gets it down to about half hour and glue them like mad.i do this for patching too and it works for me.
