Proper bristle, any type, only at dry corners and ceiling lines though not nylon as there too stiff , any marks come out as i would be doing another trowel anyway. Dont use one at wet corners.
The plaster isnt actually magnetic, it enables magnets to stick to it. Goes on a bit thicker than skim, 4 to 5mm. It needs this thickness to ensure there is enough additive to atract a magnet. Made by BG and ranges from about 30quid a bag on ebay to 65 at merchants. Dont over polish it...
