Yep just pva and multi is all you need. I've used loads of one-coat over the years on all sorts of backgrounds.
I've found it's the best plaster for patching, esp when there is a variation of backgrounds/suction/thicknesses,but I wouldn't fancy using it for skimmin over pva/artex.
Board just lays flat on top of lifter so nothing can get in the way when you raise it to the joists. It really is a piece of p--s!

If the rendering has a poor finish,there is a fair chance that it ain't stuck to the background too well,so my advice would be to get yerself a sharp bolster chisel and hack it all off.
You'd be surprised how easy it comes off and its a job you can do on a rainy/cold day!
