    thanks for your help guys do you need to use pva on outside render at all either on wall or in mix is it always better to have a mesh background or a slurry coat as base for scratch coat

    I Have rendered a 3 sqmtr wall scratch coat 3-1 mix over mesh background haven't been able to finish it of yet and its dry will i have to damp down or give it a coat of pva. Didn,t add any admixture in scratch coat but was going to add a bit of waterproofer to floating coat sorry for newbie...

    the job is sound mate if it didnt work i would of just stripped walls back but the paint was on so thick it acted as a great barrier so water didnt penetrate wall paper and the wall paper wasnt coming of easily

    so what would you have done it was either take paper of and all the backing and be left with paper or plaster over the paint on the paper either way it was a botch job

    today i plastered over wallpaper had no option i originally quoted for the job of taking wallpaper of but when i started steaming the wall i noticed the wall behind the paper was drylined they had painted over the wallpaper which helped seal the wall the paper underneath the paint wasn't going...
