Random and very dry patches appear when plastering some of my old walls

Yes, looks like it's top stuff but these patches of S&C render are pretty small and wouldn't justify a large tub of the stuff. I found a suggestion to use bitumen paint when skimming over a wood frame (had no choice) that was joined to plasterboard, and it worked really well, don't see why it...

    Trouble with high suction patches

The plaster has blown on different patches on some of the walls in my house, under the plaster is old, and very very dry sand & cement render. I have tried doing 3+ coats of PVA on these areas but when skimming over them they dry up the plaster near instantly. What do you recommend for things...

Random and very dry patches appear when plastering some of my old walls

To be fair, the PVA had fully dried by that point, maybe I should just stick to laying on when it's only half-dried (tacky). Thanks for your hypothetical Grandad's advice...

Random and very dry patches appear when plastering some of my old walls

I'm totally confused by what I witnessed last night when skimming one of my walls. I am laying onto old sand and cement render, I made sure to do two coats of PVA to reduce the suction as much as possible. When I started applying my first coat I suddenly had what looked like random patches of...

Plastering up to mastic sealant on window reveal

I have recently had double glazing installed, where the plastic window trim meets the internal window reveals there has been a mastic sealant applied to provide a clean finish. The internal reveals are not in good shape and I want to plaster them, I don't like the idea of plastering into a...

    Plywood and plastering

You can't plaster onto wood pal, you'll need to hang plasterboard before skimming with plaster, or could tape and joint the plaster boards to avoid plastering, although it my not be as robust a finish.

    Bluegrit/plaziflex

Suppose it depends on the substrate you're laying onto but why always use Blue Grit? It's expensive and not usually needed if using PVA+water mix, then the PVA dries faster and you're not chancing wait times anyway.

Difference between a Darby and a Speedskim?

Hi, I've been looking all over the web to understand the differences between these tools and when to use them. As far as I can see they are both long, straight and flat blades. The difference seems to be that the Darby is made of metal (aluminium) and the Speedskim is made from plastic...
