Speedskims are good if you have a big area. I've always used mt but just got a refina 16" s*p*r*lex and it is amazing. Saves loads of time and leaves the same finish if not better.
Just got the dewalt dab yesterday. Can't wait to get to work to get it cranked up to max. Just need to buy a new cordless now so the batteries fit. My last dewalt fm radio lasted a week before a tub of pva spilled on it. I wouldn't advise mixing electronics with pva. They don't get on.
You could scrape back the artex. Scrim any cracks. Hack off any blown plaster. Put angle beads on and give everywhere a good coat of pva if you want. If I was you I'd let him do it. Your paying him.
R&j hardware in Blackburn are cheap as chips. I get all my beads, pva scrim and tanking slurry etc from them and it's half the price I pay locally. Free nationwide delivery over £50 too. I can give you my reps number if you want or just google them.
If your selling it then it will as it's the first thing the new buyers will do so saves them a job. If it doesn't add value it will certainly make it easier to sell.
