Bricks seem to be soft mud clay very dusty and brittle, easily worn away and fixings work free easily. They also seem to Soak up water easily and retain heat thus causing expansion.
it may be that there is no right or wrong answer and just plasterers preference for scratch coating or fixing...

I just need to know if there is an adhesion issue with plaster taking to clay bricks and what the best solution is.
Plaster is proposing thistle bond it applied to clay bricks followed by sand cement scratch coat and then skimmed finish.
I had previously been advised it would need to be boarded and then skimmed So not sure which is best.
Grateful if someone can advise the best way to plaster over internal clay brick.
Thistle Bond Technical support advise that its product is suitable for use prior to plastering. Is this a good approach or is plaster bard fixed to brick preferable or is there An alternative approach.
