Was intending doing the bay window (also insulating the roof of this), and the sides as you suggest. So basically the two exposed sides of an end terrace being done. Had intended on keeping fire place as servicable so really hoping to improve everywhere else. Completely agree with you wrt the...

Bigsegs, I've estabished that I can achieve a total max thickness of 80mm on top of my bricks and still keep the alcoves useable. So I could follow your install method using 30mm celotex boards between studs and then cladding fully using 30mm again. Then 12mm board + 3mm finish. Do you think...

Yes bigsegs 9" wall. Floor is boarded cira 1907. Alcoves definitely cold, previous owners fitted two rads in these to try and deal with it (I hate rads in alcoves like this). Also got a bay window with relatively new DG (2002). What you say makes sense, for the most part. Can you clarify about...

Thanks for replies guys. Yeah I confused things a bit with reference to render. Definitely no damp problem. Just a thermal one, so wanting to use a thermal board of some type - Any reccomendations? Yes dpbeds, taking it back to brick. Lots of it cracked and badly patched. Had a little read up...

Slightly off topic I guess but I got to thinking about dry lining my external facing walls (house is an end terrace). The walls in question are the gable end walls with chimey breast. My plan was to clean off existing plaster back to brick. Dot n dab with thermal boards. And then joint fill...

Thanks dpbeds, Cystal clear that explanation. Sounds like I could employ that technique on my next couple of ceilings. Was really struggling with my last ceiling and ran out of steam strying to get all the lines out. This'll make you laugh btw. Had a mate help me out when I did it, about...

Cheers for the tips Tomcat, Daveparkinson I've done two small walls and a ceiling since. Still had some waves but not as pronounced as last time. Defo thnk it's partly my trowl (new) and also my technique. Cross troweling has definitely helped me, also think that due to my slow pace that any...

Hi Rocky, Thannks for the reply, got a couple of small areas to go at this weekend so will bare that in mind. Whilst on can anyone enlighten me to what 'rolling a gauge' means. Saw mention of this in a few posts. Thanks BNJ

Hi Danny, sorry no photos sanded back now. Perhaps I exagerated a bit, but the 'waves' were a series of horizontal ripples caused no doubt as I trowelled upwards. Point is though to look at it wet it wasn't obvious at all. Only once dry with a mist coat on it. Think maybe I didn't trowel enough...

Hello people, Nice site Danny, top stuff. Two fingers to the screwfix (or is that a swearword here?) forums for not having a plasterers only forum hey. Had a read of the forum over the last couple of days and been well impressed with the attitude and willingness of you guys to help others out...
