Anyone tried to make their own? Was thinking if you got some finely ground iron filings from a metal company it might be possible to do a bit of experimenatation and make your own batch

Think im going to find a local metal company who could give me 10-20kg of the filings and do a bit of trial and error in the garage

Gonna be funny when it starts to rust...
Like I said would put it in someones house just interested it working out how it works, once plaster dries and is in a dry place why would it rust?

If I left a pile of iron filings on my mantle piece they wouldnt rust, why would they?

They would in time due to the fact that air carries moisture

Yeah but in what sort of time, especially if those filings are within the dry plaster making it even harder for the water molecules to penetrate them....ive got no doubt in essence thats all magnetic plaster is, iron filings and probably uni as the prescence of the iron would maybe affect bonding

Try mixing them with multi without using water .....
Oxidisation only occors from prolonged exposure to moisture, they would survive the few days drying time that plaster takes....now a damp wall would be totally different, bet bg have a caveat somewhere about magnetic going on damp walls

I think the fatal flaw in your new product is the water problem. Ask any plasterer that has ever owned a carbon steel trowel what they think and for that reason, I won't be investing. I'm out !!!

Put your tampon back in mate im not selling anything just thinking out loud...rust is just a chemical reaction, cerain screws dont rust because theyre coated in a product that prevents the chemical reaction, a little bit of that product would prevent the reaction taking place

Reading Bg's coshh sheet it contains magnetite which is black iron oxide, so that could explain the colour of the plaster, this black rust is a controlled rust and it's purpose of slowing down the corrosion rate. Wonders of Google

Ooooohh. You're going to paint your iron filings whis product then, may take some time. If you're still interested and can't be arsed painting your iron filings before work, I can sell you 25 kg of magnetic plaster dust for £150, collection only

Just posted a link for the black oxide powder so no painting required, reason I posted is that I knew some answers would be put forward and the from what I just read you dont get rust with the oxide powder as technically its already rusty....but still magnetic

And dont be so G**, you wouldnt paint anything anyway you'd just mix the two products together

I know what it's made of but can't say or will get sacked.
It's black colour is so plasterers know they ain't using normal skim finish.
Lets be honest most of us are thick but we ok with different colour's

Ok, you've sold it to me . I'll have a dozen 25kg bags and I'm prepared to pay £6 a bag, I don't care what colour it is as long as it's pink
Patent tells you exactly how to make it, no need to buy it off me plaster, iron powder and sodium benzoate in the correct ratio...they even give examples

Why line bg's pocket when you have the product and patent info to make the same stuff in your garage at home
