“L” Shape Garden Approximately 45m2 surface area above DPC to be rendered in STO Lotusan render.
Hello
I have a “L” Shape Garden wall that requires silicone rendering both sides of the wall above the DPC. Approximately 45m2 surface area (Dimensions are Approximately 6m (Wide) by 1.55m (Height) , 8m (Wide) by 1.55m (Height) ) .
We are looking at using of the STO Lotusan render. (http://www.sto.co.uk/en/products/facade-finishes/facade-renders/stolotusan.html )
From the research i have done ,
STO Lotusan render – Various videos , and posts about this product , been featured on grand designs , found youtube videos showing how the dirt doesn’t stick to it etc etc etc, expensive stuff from what i have gathered though .....
K rend has allot of complaints , not only by customers but by the plasterer/renderer.
Wetherby render - Cannot find any videos or complaints / compliments for it, however their aftercare/maintenance guide has kinda put me of the product as it acknowledges algae and moss growth.
Parex – heard this mentioned several times , but not had chance to research this.
Seen on this forum “JUB nanoxil” mentioned but haven’t heard of it before and cant youtube at work…
We are based in Failsworth , Manchester ( Junction 21 M60 area) ,
Regards
Luke

@themucky1 in your area mate?

personally youll be wasting your money with sto.. very high priced for what you want and they dint exactly cater for the domestic or small commercial.

most thincoat silicone render you will see water and dirt running off. you tube will only show what they want you to see.
lotus and nanoxcil are good protection but its like self cleaning windows. they have the nano tech but it still gets dirty

Thanks @Dansouthcoast84 but I'm Midlands mate no Mcr it's about 90miles from me,
And to the op dans right in what he's saying sto is good gear but highly priced, look for alternatives like Jub I use this stuff on a regular basis and really rate it, stay away from the wetherby Sps Envirowall and the like there not the best and I've had batch problems in the past causing me right headaches, if your heart is set on using sto I do have a friend from Manchester who uses sto regular and could pass you his details

Hello, we want to have the wall rendered then basically left alone with minimal maintenance for several years only cleaning if it gets very dirty.. if you could pass on his number that would be great, been a nightmare getting hold of stock applicators in the Manchester area, even contacted STO directly.

Was toying with the idea of just getting it rendered in a silicone render then just buying the STO Lotusan paint for it as STO will sell it me directly, found the various application data sheets etc for it and it states it can be applied on silicone render

Thanks again

Luke

Read loads of issues with K Rend going green algea so defo put off that stuff,
Can not find any customer input in to the wetherby render other than some one having issues with the warranty/ guarantee.

I understand that the Lotusan paint will not be 100% effective and over time will gather dirt but I'm sure it will be the easiest to clean

Was originally going to go with sand and cement render and paint but want it to last and still look good in years to come so I'm willing to pay a premium

Again thanks for replying

Logic says anything close to the ground outside is going to get dirty and need maintenance within a year or two.. Even my plastic wheelie bin does.

Lol , I know where your coming from but nothing looks worse on a white rendered wall than algea ,limescale and traffic film staining that you see on some of these new builds.

I'm aware I'd need to give it some maintenance but not wanting to have to paint ever other year or be out cleaning regular.

Any way thanks for the replies guys

Got called to a £45 000 landscape job (not one I was involed with) to give my verdict of what was wrong with the render of the dwarf walls, told them the same on the phone before I went..on arrival customer was spitting blood that she been told it may need yearly maintenance, I agreed it does.. Imo the dwarf walls look the business but and of the day rendering of any sort low to ground is going to need cleaning or repainting on annual basis to still look like it did when first done.. Slabs, decking, glass, wood, tile, even plain brick are all the same as plastic wheelie bin.
Best of luck
Id go with @madmonk for your work to be done
