Waisted first 10 yrs of my plastering life 2 coating board work until I was shown the light @Marshy....

Not any more pal when you know how to!!!!

I'm Interested to know this process?

Its no great secret chaps!!!

All I do is knock my gear up much firmer than you would normally...

I just bed down the joints and beads first and lay it on much heavier than normal...

I then just keep on top of the set...

1 flatten
1 flatten after tickling edges
1 wet trowel

Dry cross at day end....

Done it before,,,dont think its better than 2 coat though.

I agree I'm not saying it's no good but when I try it it always goes tits up just can't seem to get it right so always opted for two coats

1 coating with a speedskim is a nitemare..wen u flatten off it just brings the black shitty grit bits up dsnt work with a speedskim, with a speedskim u knock at least half hour off ur gage as it closes the set in quicker

Im sure there are those that can achieve a decent finish one coating? Same can be said using a superted etc i know for fact @scottie5 posted pics of his work and another spreads effort in a house next to him. The results were quite shocking its always the case some can use certain tools and make them work and others cant. At the end of the day a skilled tradesman can make almost anything work ;)

Lay on first coat and use same stuff on second coat and lay in second coat flat if its a normal sized set.

Lay on first coat then second coat with a slightly wetter mix and lay flat on bigger stuff.

Clean tools off

Two flattening trowels over

Have a fag

Another trowel over leaving some fat on beads

Kill another 10 minutes by having a chat, coffee, phone people, arguee with those idiotic people on the radio who do the competitions on there and get all the questions wrong, bit of air guitar, dance, maybe a sniff around the knicker drawer

Then another flat over, sometimes ill bring the edges in with a brush if there pulling in

Then a little tidy up if needed otherwise another fag break, air guitar, arguerment, dance, Jeremy Kyle or whatever for 10/15mins

Slight flick of water bring it all together with another trowel, edges, beads all brought right in nice with this one

Go prep the next set, water, skim, sheets, beads etc or air guitar, phone calls, abuse, knicker drawer, hide the kids toys, MAKE MY OWN COFFEE AGAIN, etc

Another trowel over keeping they edges nice, clean edges of the beads off, cloth the window revels etc then about 15 minutes after that one last hard/ polishing trowel.

That's how I do It anyway.
Sounds like u were reading that off a back of the multi bag or I reckon they should have that printed on the back more clearly anyway (y)

Bloke who does skimming for us now and then Basically one coats.

Lays on then runs round everything with a hawk full skim, literally his first flatten consists of him spreading out everything hes layed on across the whole wall or ceiling.

He gets it perfect every time.

I couldn't do it no way.

Rnt u on holiday ya nutter lol??
Forum is worldwide mate.. I'm always here even when I'm on the hard stuff as well!

I agree with you totally...

But if done right its just as good!!!

I have to say I think when I 1 coat I actually put on more material than when I lay 2 tight coats on!!!

The main secret is to dub any deep areas out before hand ie beads, door casings, joints etc...

Additionally the other main point is to knock the gear up very heavy, waaaay heavier than a normal mix or it just won't work and you cant apply the depth and it will tear etc
