we hear a lot about the other makes Nela n Refina trowels but getting the feeling everybody is swinging back to the Marshalltown trowel for skimming now ! I've got a 14" x 5 " stainless good allrounder its well worn in now buts it's still straight just is that common thoughts please as sick of hearing about the others

I've a 12" permashape had it about 10 years. Its razor sharp but it looks like it hasn't worn in at all when I see others looking like a triangle. What's the difference between ones with a gold trim on handle and the black trim?

Only ever used mt. One for skimming and one for breaking in on s+c. Just started using a speedskim though.

the gold trim tells you the trowel is a goldback best quality stainless steel , black trim is a standard stainless trowel.
the highest quality mt trowel is the premier duraflex trowel, there is is also a basic mt duraflex trowel.

Speedskim is awesome. I done a fairly big ceiling the other day over broken leather artex, couldn't have been more flat after just one pass with it and it was effortless.

Mines has the gold trim, I assume the black ones are the ones that wear away? My dad has a dureflex but I don't think its the premier the whole trowel has a gold tinge to it. but was only about 40 quid

when starting out i used the tysack centenary, (single tang) made in sheffield, these were the dogs b*ll***s at the time, briefly flirted with the double tanged tysack but did not take to it, moved on to Mt.

I changed my handle on gold to black handle from trowel I had over 10 years ago..I prefer the black trim handle, though it's smaller than gold one..it's well worn but balance is excellent

Use both these and messed about with some of the other toys but never really got on with them can't see why I'd want to keep trying when I get good finish with my old toys :birras:

Went off marshalltown, I'm skimming with a nela premium now. Think it's going to be the best trowel I've ever had. Got the rubber handle on it which I prefer. Out of curiosity I might get a carbon steel trowel next, never had one before but heard good things. Would mean going back to mt though.

I've found it makes the job easier. I'm domestic and 90% of my work is reskims. (Mostly ceilings) Instead of waving my trowel at the same area 6 times and kicking my hop up round the room 6 times you only have to do 4 times. I believe I've mentioned before that I'm old and lazy.

Half ceiling has been speedskimmed the other half 1st troweled with 18" supaflex .
Its a approx 45/50m hit without labourer.

Im not sure why mt are used anymore for skimming.
And I only 1 coat.

Yup use speedskim n Mts and occasional messing about with others in recent past but all either dinks in plastic or can't remember where others are so says it all 48 meself but still knocking me nuts off when needed.:sisi:

I bet @ scottie5 sees a fault in my strap on stilts ready to snap ...because line on ceiling isnt straight !!

I think the s*p*r*lex trowels people are switching back to not using them but think MT market share has now been smashed to bits... which is a good thing... competition inspires innovation
