PUTZ Buckets quick review

Ive got some collomix buckets for skim. got 2 with an order off r and j years ago. They take just under 1.5 bags. Ones sat untouched in the lock Up cus i cant break the first one! For Bonding and dab i use a black gorilla tub from p1ss. Theyre the best gorilla tubs ive ever used. I do fancy one of those putz tubs though. Sometimes the collomix isnt big enough.

1.5 bags is more than enough on day rate

All said and done it can only hold 1.5 bags of skim!!!

I'm sure its solid it certainly looks it however I'd forever be wishing i d bought a 65 litre plus and I'm certainly no hero!!!

That's when the problem begins though as you cant comfortably lift then anyway so handles become irelavent...

I just collect the water in normal 14 litre builder buckets then empty water into buckets into 65 litre tub and mix!

Once there full your not going to lift anyway!!!

Spotboards are great if you only put a bag on at a time and/or have a labourer that's fine but working on your own big bucket and mix up the once to get it all on I think works better!!!

Jesus have I rely just typed that on a Saturday night about a foookin bucket!!!....I need a life!!!!

You forgot ...
Also good for one coat specials
:hola:

On domestics with a spot board 1-1/5 bags to scratch on is enough another 3/4 to lay down.

I have a big spot board probably 4ft square.

When using a gorilla tub, 75ltr especially, correct me if I'm wrong your very, very tempted to lay in with the same gear that you know will be stiffer than Jimmy savile in a nursery with 5 mins.

I use to do it, our quality dropped.

@theplasterman I'd put my 1 coating of board work against anyones 2 coat on here for quality!

I would say for meterage also but then I'd just be lieing and gobbing off!!!!

At the end of the day the backing get what it needs to achieve the correct finish sometimes its 1 coat, others 2 coat same mix, some need 2 coats from sepetate mixes,...some even get a bonding/multi 1st coat and then topped with a multi only 2nd coat!!!...

Experience dictates what's needed....but ill tell you straight ive earnt more/easier money by being very very good at 1 coating board work than any other skill set in plastering!

Sad but true!!!

Yep I'd agree with that depending on how you work and substrate and meterage working on...

When they say the proof is in the mix I certainly believe it. Never used spot board on site and don't think I will. after getting my first bucket , used only gorilla new before that, I found out the setting time was different . Looking into this I came to the conclusion that mixing n gorilla buckets the plaster is exposed more to the air , do to the width of the bucket, and the mixing time s longer , do to the shape of the bucket. You have to run the mixer from one side to another , where with the tubs/buckets you create a swirl and the mixing time is shorter and the top of the bucket is not so wide , so less exposure to the air. Once the plaster is on the board the setting time is even quicker. Using at the moment gorilla tubs and plastic tubs/ buckets. Both are very handy.

I just get my lad to knock one up in this, it's detachable from the base makes it easier to empty, won't hold too much gear but it's ideal if you're on dayrate

Mac only justt watched you vid. Whats washing the bucket as you mix all about sunshine? And do you go through loads of bucket trowels scraping your tub that much or was it all for show on the vid lol

My tub gets a quick whip with the bucket trowel when im almost finished mixing and a wash once i've stopped sweating after firing it on!

I like the gorilla tubs cus you can get 3 bags of board finish in it. What size of them buckets fits 3 bags in? Gunna try one

Why!! I've always used a spot board, get your labourer to tip it onto board and there's no fcuking about with bending over all the time lifting skim out with a gager. Fcuk that! On the boards its just a wee scrape, tidy it onto the hawk. That's a better way than fcuking about with gagers all day!

Agree, it's much easier, but not if you mix 4+ . That's the only reason I am not using spot board.

I have always been taught to clean the bucket around the top to avoid and dry clumps of powder forming around edges.

Buckets trowels are Rolsons brick towels cut down to suit.

The way I mix on the video is how I want my lad to mix and was how I was taught to mix apart from the wooden stick I had to use to get texture right

I don't miss that trusty bit of lath one bit! My old gaffer had a paddle mixer but it was lath then plunger for me throughout my apprenticeship. He always said if the paddle broke i needed to be able to mix by hand.

Piss take really because in the 2 years i was with him i never fired the paddle up so f**k knows how it was ever going to break lol

My old gaffer was very well respected around Rotherham, when I got a start with him I had lads coming up to me asking how is got a job with him.

Very very old school and a bit of a perfectionist.

The things he taught me I will take to my grave, boiling hot water to clean newly fit coving, how to mix etc etc

He use to make me mix with a podger first to get the texture right.

Top man, I'd probably be in prison now if he didn't give me that chance

At 17-18 I just wanted to scrap, take drugs and DJ at any place that wouldn't search me or the idiots that would come in with me

Did you work for cloughs back in the day most plasterers from Rotherham did they had some top trades men and didn't appreciate what they'd got

Lloyd Cloughs had plenty of stickers.bit like the Council.

How they managed to keep men is beyond me with the low rates they paid. Similar to J D Jones.

I had a strict apprenticeship upbringing. Probably why I am so hard to work with and find most spreads hard to work with.

I had to mix with a 2 x 1 pse stick for my first 3 years then got a podger made for me on site by a heating engineer who said I needed to get up to date. Had that podger for 20 years and still got its replacement. Bicycle cogs take some beating.

I got taught same way with my old man, he didn't let me have the paddle drill for two years. But it was all render and skim them days, so no d+d to knock up. I wouldn't want to go back, looking back now I realise he was taking the piss haha
