Random thought I use bonding and multi mixed together a lot after PVA walls over heavy artex and general refurb work for a 1st coat then top up with multi to finish.

Got a horrible stairs next week which is painted artex that i just want to get in and smash it out and foookin off...

has anyone just put near bonding straight onto artex without using PVA first I know by spec I think your suppose to PVA but do you in the real world wouldn't imagine it would fail or would it?

I do things everyday if I'm honest that are short cuts providing doesn't compromise the finished product?

I'm thinking bonding 1st coat sponge float the c**t and top and fook off sharpish rather than loose a day pvaing and waiting for it to dry etc

Thoughts?

Done one in December without pva, tight coat of bonding then skim, its still there, was only about a 1.5sqm or so

Get yourself a cheap leaf blower, dries pva in no time

can't you prep it with bonding agent first then your faffing about with Pva just tell the customer an put it in the price that's all I do

Think it would stick for a bit but would come off myself.

Or you could go straight over it with the good stuff
That will stick defo.

I don't think that's a good idea,Better to prep it properly and most importantly charge more.

i would give it a tight coat of pva, if it is still wet when you want to apply floating coat ,sponge some pva off. then bonding mixed with hardwall 50/50 with cement to get a quick set, then skim.
bonding does need a pva coat

how tight is a tight coat of PVA ?

how tight is a tight coat of PVA ?

we apply pva with a roller in a paint bucket. load the roller then squeeze the liquid out so that you only lay a thin coat of pva on to the wall. i am talking about pva to an artex finish.

Thanks for all the feedback lads!...

Thanks for cementing my doubts!

Guess I was just living in hope @ beddy yep that's defo the way to go for me I recon as soon as I get my hand on a pallet of the stuff....

Fukin hate PVA ing...just wish you could just pick bags of unifinish off the shelf from wickes and alike!

I didn't pva over artex about 10 years ago and it fell off about a week after I skimmed it. Came off like sheets of glass.

Always done it right since, with no problems.

Yep its happened to me and my mate, went back after the weekend and it had blown my mate tried to blame it on the bonding being a bad batch haha.

Yowser!!! Thank foook I didn't try it...@johndoe @clarkie!!!

got to admit the way it sticks like shite to yer tools and buckets thought would probably be ok!

If it's matt emulsion on the artex pva will go off quick but if it's been silk emulsioned your gonna be there forever waiting for that to dry especially in this weather. Can you not call for an hour or so the day before and bead up whilst there so your off to a flyer when you get there

If you look on line b n q will say which store has it in stock, fair enough it's £11 there but you was going to buy bonding any way and pva ...
To me it's crying out unifinish.
Straight in sheets down, mix on, flatten, done, gone,£££
Any Sig merchants near you?
