Does this rendering look acceptable?

Thanks all for replying. Can anyone recommend someone in SW London to quote for doing it right? The house was full of damp when we bought it so this was to sort that out. With a new born baby we really don't want damp returning.

Who actually done it and what do they proclaim to be?
Builders, renderers, plasterers?
Which ever I'd hate to see there other work.
Why did you let them do outside when inside was a mess?

It's shite.
I also put waterproofer in every coat.
Any body mentioning unibond on the quote shouldn't have got the job.
They just don't know what they are doing.
Chancers.

Never put it in my top coat render is designed to absorbe water then dry. Not saying it doesn't work but not how I do it :)

'Waterproofer' doesn't make it waterproof, silly as it may seem.
Unless you use the likes of triple strength medusa.
I'm talking along the lines of evoplast, febproof etc, these only reduce the amount of water that penetrates, so the water can go both ways, which is why they aren't suitable for swimming pools etc.

Hi I have a question about these cracks-there are many. Should I be worried? Someone told me if water gets in them and freezes the cracks will get bigger. And what causes them-just poor work applying the render or the mix they used was not right?

Yes you should be worried. I feel sorry for you and one of the lads on here will be able to advise and help you. Best of luck

It's complicated

This is the original quote

Rendering Exterior

* To erect scaffold to existing side of building to hack back blown render discussed on exterior walls, coat walls with uni-bond, apply 2 scratch coats to level out, 1 top coat smooth render with waterproof additive combined to mix to prevent further water ingress. £8250

They went over existing render ? Aswell ? Was it painted ?!

your external render is of very poor quality and it has broken key . it needs to be taken off .

in our local area the council would want your house fitted with an external wall insulation system not just rendered.

have you paid this chap who reduced the value of your property?

Don't say you paid for the skip too!

Absolute shocking but big question is what did you pay?? If the price was cheap and 2 good to be true as your pics prove it was! Looks like there have saved about of cash by not buying any beads..as for cracks appearing if was your old stuff was hacked off I bet there don't use Webber mesh so expect more of them cracks to appear over the coming winter

I suggest you get someone in quick just to hack off, I doubt you will get it rendered this time of year because of the weather, unless you get the whole job sheeted which is expensive. He shouldn't of used PVA firstly which may cause problems and the worse thing he has done is put the waterproofer in the top coat. What will happen is, water will get behind that top coat through driving rain, but won't be able to get out. It will cause damp inside and when it freezes will blow the top coat off which looks like what's happening. The job is shocking he has really took the piss and you have paid good money.
PVA externally ffs i expected betterbfrom you

I've said it before but who actually advises this?
Loads of bollox really.
I know if you go on planning portal it does say this but I don't see many following these guide's

This work is shocking.
Contact trading standards for there advice.
Unfortunately you've paid them so they've mugged you off.

Hi
I've had the side my house rendered but to me the job looks rough. The photos don't show how bad it really looks-not very smooth like I was told it would be. And the edges are not straight. Some bits have fallen off and underneath it is crumbly-a builder came and looked at it and said the mix was not right and it should be rock hard. Is he right? There's also a lot of cracks which looks bad and I'm worried water will get in them. The people who did it came and did some bad looking patching. From the pics what do you think?

Interesting.
It was another plasterer I know who stripped it,I asked him why he didn't redo the render dash, he said the owner couldn't afford ewi and was fuming that council could say what he could do ..so he left it out of principle...love building inspector's they are so helpful

I hate using waterproofer. I find it weakens the mix. Plus the s@c is not as nice to float up.

Do you still carry on just rendering as normal? Has anyone had any problems when the render has been done....like being told to take it off?

If your re doing 25% or more you're supposed to upgrade the u value to meet regs unless you already have it.
I'm guessing If you didn't they could get a court order to remove it or fine you?

I've never had a problem but always tell the client what the regs are and its down to them.

Unless it's insulated from the inside mind

I was thinking it may be the solution for this poor bloke, can anyone give a ball part for him ewi e.g £8000,£10ooo,13000/£15000 from photos of the property as a whole as a rough price for ewi,if he got his £8000 back off the family dude and was happy to pay a bit extra he could turn this negative experience into a positive that he gets a warmer home and a nice finish that will save him on his bills which would pay for itself on his extra investment within not to many years.

I have 100 square metres of sand and cement to do. How much Sand and cement will it take. New block work. Am thinking 4 ton Sand and 1 ton cement.

Thanks keith

That was what he said ...I was shocked that he could just turn up and say that though...I think it depends how far the council inspector want to push his point ..it's defo important in some areas for plasterers to bare these changers in mind.my dude got paid but can see u can easily get the blame by customers for not informing them this may be the case.

It's a lot of money for a working class family to find though to be fair.
I suppose this is where the green deal was beneficial.
If it's funded privately it would take years to get that money back.

If,you can get your money back , and the house is about 120m2 , you can pay a bit more for ewi, but the benefits are greater than s&c render. It will reduce the moisture significant, which is your main concern if I am right.
