Got a lad in to give me a lift on weekend. Hall stairs landing at my mates house so they can get moved in. My mate was at the house all day with us.This lad went to college and has been plastering the last 6 years or so. I gave him the bottom of the stairs while I did he top half off a ladder. Nice tall walls. I was appalled. My half of the stairs had a couple of plaster drops on and his was caked. Looked like he dropped a grenade in the bucket. After he second coat which he left a bit long as he started putting on another bedroom wall the edges weren't right. He started laying the second Coat down so I finished the bedroom all off. I looked at the stair wall and saw this

Picture isn't great but the while wall was full of stripes where he'd forgot to clean all the dry plaster off his trowel. Fu@king useless tw@. Took a while of going over with a bit of finish but managed to get it looking the way it should

I wasn't going to post anything as it's a bit long winded but we had done some more walls on the day and my mate rang me late last night and asked the lad doesn't come back and can he borrow a sander for a wall the lad did. The lad gobbed off like H knew everything all day but turned out completely shite.

Unfortunately this is this accepted standard silly young knobsticks think is "good plastering"?
They talk a load of bollox about new flexitrowel this and plasiflex that, they cant even transfer gear from hawk to trowel without covering everything in **** and than wiping it all over themselves, bit like when a chimpanzee rubs its own **** on its fur when being watched in a zoo?
Tell the little pretender exactly how **** he really is and knock the hot air out his sails, a big dose of reality goes along way and he may even try to improve his plastering "skills" (but I doubt it)
:RpS_cursing:

So u done the tops of a ladder he done bottom of stairs down to stringer it does show thats were they get showed up for what they are when working with other spreads you should have just used him for mixing cleaning out buckets and halking it up to you doing the high bits of a ladder

On a serious note how do you tell someone their shite. I've often needed a hand but fear getting someone I can work alongside

I have never said it but they probably read between the lines, midway through the day you say this job is in bother, we need to pull off, will give you a shout when it's sorted, I can live with slow, the confident, been doing it for years rough as a bears arsee is difficult especially if you get on with them,

Pull em to one side a tell em it's not the standard your after , here's 20 notes see u later ,then get ready for the fisticuffs :RpS_bored:

Those days I rarely met a English guy on site, it was paddy's everywhere in London, think I was here three months before I met an English lad on site, now no one speaks any English,

My old man had bout 8 Irish working for him ,they were animals for the graft, one guy Brendan I can remember use to work in sandels no socks ( Jesus creepers type) sand and cement everywhere :RpS_laugh:

Told this before but my uncle plastered in wellies and y fronts to get rid of two lazy spreads working for him, it worked,

Just be honest with them Steve, if its bad enough that they need to be told they probably know it anyway.

Next time we catch up ill give you some tips on how to be blunt and rude to people lol

Some people work for themselves because they're good at they're job and know what they're doing.
The rest have to work for themselves blagging their way through jobs coz they're unemployable.

1st time I ever ever met an English spread on site in London was in 1991. They had sticky scrim , the feckers cos the tight Paddy subbies wouldn't pay for it.

they couldn't hack the pace or quality though :RpS_thumbsup:

Dziecki now though, no clerk of works, everyone's a plasterer

Ok, how many of you guys have had a bad first day working for someone else? Or have been criticized on your standards( surely you where all not born super ) when I worked with my uncle I felt on day one they where too nice with no criticism so over a sandwich and a cuppa I told them that I am far from good and you need to abuse everything I do wrong! My way of thinking was to highlight all my faults as early as possible so I could learn from them. I've thick skin.

i remember the summer of 76 worked most of it in my underpants and trainers lol and the other two lads i worked with we had a thing for stuffing whole lardy-cakes down our throats at tea-time.......

Everyone does start somewhere. Point I was making was this lad was supposed to be experienced. My idea of a bad day for myself is getting crap in my eye or forgetting the milk. Not completely making a pigs ear of a wall that I should competently and confidently be able to do

Yeah course, I think if your putting your name and reputation to something you are entitled to expect a good standard of work. I know a few people that are masters of everything but can do feek all ! I was just giving an input on the importance of being told your **** when you are ****.
