primer problem

Went and painted cementone green primer on artex living room ceiling yesterday morning after giving it a scrape. Was a short stipple. I always use this on artex and never had a problem. Went back this morning to plaster it and had a tough time. The primer usually gives a longer working time than standard pva and water. Really kills the suction well. Not today. It was about 18 sq metres and the plaster was drying after putting 4 metres on. Plaster was ok. Well in date and the stuff in the bucket was fine. Managed a bit of a one bag rolling set putting the second coat on the ceiling when getting half way with the first. It says leave 24 hour before plastering. I probably put on after 21 hours. The green was bone dry though. Maybe I hadnt left it long enough and the extra 3 hours were all the difference. Got it done much quicker than normal though and sweating my tits off in the process.

Problem with that bonding agent compared to the others is on high suction backgrounds it does not hold it back , best to use a different brand ie blue grit or plasterers pre grit by bond it , or paint pva or sbr to kill suction first , but might as well just use pva in that case

Yes I agree that it does not seem to kill the suction very well. I've had a couple of ceilings fail on Artex using PvA in the distant past but never had a problem with Betakontakt or microgobetis. I'm guessing you didn't throw any bonding in the first half coat along with your multi as this should have held it back anyway?

Does not sound like the multi then as my mate was telling me he had some well in date stuff recently set in the bucket on one set. Then be fine on the next set using the same batch that he has took off a pallet

Can't say I've waited longer than 24 hours before skimming onto the cementone Plasprime but maybe try leaving it longer.

Its a Bonding Agent, to adhere plaster, not for suction kill.If you wanto kill sution use PVA or Artex Sealer.

betakontakt and micro are a 2in 1 product that's why it has the sand added.
PVA takes 2 applications to kill cacti on and provide key while the others need 1

Sealer and pva and Micro will still kill more suction, especially the sealer, the Bonging Agents are not designed to kill suction.Control, yes.on a high suction background they do not kill suction.

Ive used this on artex a few times and never had an issue. By sealer do you mran the artex sealer stuff. Seen this knocking around before

I always use bond-it or blu-grit and never had a problem if anything they hang longer on setting up.

I always pva 24 hours before then pva again and skim it when second pva is tacky. I only use pva on artex and have never had any problems.

[Q UOTE=Arti;772480]How are you wasting your time Scottie? I often skim on walls when the PVA isnt tacky
Your wasting your time because you've got to drive to the job day before to pva then drive back next day to skim or am I missing something here?

No marra, i thought you ment waiting to skim it dry was a waste of time............................:RpS_blushing:...................soz marra.................i mean Jock.............:RpS_wink:

Artex sealer - have'nt tried this gear, how long it dries up? Then betokontackt (2 hours)

Depends on your background, it can be gone off in an hour, says in the tub 2-4 hrs. Applying Betokontackt after your stabalizer is an expensive option Ryan, PVA is suficient to give you a bond.

Your grovelling apology is duly accepted marra, just don't be letting it happen again!

Is artex sealer most efficient to seal off high suction background (artex and old plaster) then PVA as I find betokontackt and bond it quite expensive ?

Artex sealer isn't made for sealing artex Ryan it's a sealer you use on a background before applying artex :RpS_wink:
Not saying you can't use it for other stuff though :RpS_biggrin:

Usually you can skim almost straight away, depends on the background but most artexed ceilings will be sealed and skimmed within 10 minutes, but needs to be dry to touch. :RpS_thumbsup:

Artex sealer seals up porosity of artex waif for it dry touch, then PVA , skim when tacky ?

I don't use pva, just the sealer.
1 coat is all that is usually necessary unless it's really porous.
I use it neat but you can water it down.

Your wasting your time pvaing 24hrs before plastering kris. If using pva you should be able to control the suction on the same day.

Thats just the way I was learned m8 ;) So is it ok to pva once on same day and skim over while tacky. Ive always pvad artex twice... @ stuart23

ive used Artex sealer years ago on a regular basis prior to texturing and unlike PvA it doesn't form a skin but never thought or would be brave enough to skim onto it.
I assume you've done it for years with no come backs?

Not one that I know about.
I was aprehensive at first when I got told about it too.
I have been using it for years and got other local plasterers on to it too, wish I hadn't, I have trouble getting it now :RpS_thumbdn:
