Yep it's that subject again, thought I would start a fresh thread coz it's out now, or is it? @BritishGypsum so the gear is out now but non of the big stockist have got it. I spoke to Travis who haven't got it and won't stock it coz of the price and shelf life, they said CCF haven't got it so I spoke to them to make sure and yep they ain't got it, neither has their main branches but to be fair the guy was very helpful and went as far as phoning the BG rep who unfortunately was unable to be contacted (recurring theme). So here lies the problem, you have brought out a product without much, if any publicity which nobody can get their hands on without ordering 24. You have a few YouTube videos showing the product which is a product I'm interested in and some of my customers are interested in but they can't have and I can't offer so what's the crack?

Your obsessed man just let it lie
Lol if your not interested in the gear don't comment I am that's why I comment, I have customers asking for it coz I mentioned it but I can't get it in the amounts I want. I'm sure if B&Q stopped selling sweeping brushes and you had to order 24 at the same time you would be pissed and want to know why ;)

Ha ha I would go to wicks
Why dont you just see if you can get a pallet between you and some of the other guys on here?
Or just tell your customers its ****!

What if wickes only sold the barrow and shovel lol that's the problem and fair point but it's hard enough runnin a sweepstake never mind organising a pallet between members. I don't want to be organising a pallet between members every time I get a job I just want to buy what I need when I need it. This is a new product to us but even newer to the man in the street who I'm going to push it to. Did you know that the strength of the magnet is how it works and they have a guitar hanging off the walls at BG headquarters? This gear really could take off but the mystery surrounding it's capabilities and buying it is shadowing a possible revolutionised product lol

Well said flyn would be handy with more info etc and to be able to buy it, they obviously arnt thinking about the domestic market more commercial and schools etc where they would use a pallet ? Bit silly really as domestics would use it alot once it got known about it abit more , adverts on tv or something ?????

You get a magnetic dustpan with every bag :)

STICK to ya guns with this magnetic plaster flynnymarra....................:RpS_thumbup:

and when you get a pallet just drop a couple off at mine...................when ya passin like...............:RpS_wink:

As of the 8th of april it is avaliable from t.p's. I rang b.g n they told me to ring them.. so I did n they rang back to confirm

@BritishGypsum any chance of coming on and clearing a few things up? Looking at a few videos and this pops up @plasterman, nice idea by the way with the games and CDs :) BG tell us the gear needs to go on at 3mm maybe 4mm it keeps changing which will give you 5m out of a 25kg bag and at around £70/80 a pop is pretty much a niche product that most people can't afford, which is fine, some things in life are expensive. @Danny tells me it is all down to the strength of the magnets because he has seen a guitar hung on the wall at BG towers, then I watch the video I'm gonna post up by the lad @plasterman who says it needs to be around 7mm to 8mm or won't work as well, which for any finishing plaster is gonna cause you problems, but I'm not sure about the magnetic gear coz nobody's said anything from @BritishGypsum. If this is the case your talking 2.5m a bag which will make this impossible to sell because it's becoming dearer than a metal sheet so any chance of coming on the forum to clear up a few matters coz up until now you haven't gave us the lowdown on the gear and from what I can see the only people talking about this gear is us xxx

Blimey,

Right it can go on 3mm thick but if you want more sticking power reskimming it again will give you the maximum amount. Anymore than 6mm wont give you any more sticking power.

The stronger the better the magnet the stickier it will be... so for example those fridge magnets that are letters wont hold up your shopping list but then they are weak magnets.

The BG team had a competition in their offices (in house) to see what they could stick on the wall uses a 1m strip of magnet... someone has managed to stick a guitar on it (from what I was told)

But I am sure @BritishGypsum will be along to clarify this. :RpS_thumbsup:

So skim it Pva and skim again? What the ****? So is it the stronger the magnet or thicker coat? @BritishGypsum your on I can see your on so say something its bordering on ridiculous that questions are being asked, your reading them but not answering, what's the crack? is it think of a question, ask it and some one off the forum takes a guess or searches the net? Was the wall @Danny talked about 3mm or 6mm?

Hi @flynnyman,

Thanks for the question, as Danny correctly mentioned, in terms of thickness we would recommend a 3mm minimum, however the amount of attraction is also dependent on the strength of the magnet - we've attached an image of the bag of the bag so you can see some more information about this.

Also, we are aware many members are interested in the price of Magnetic Plaster, however, as it is the prerogative of our merchants to set prices we unfortunately can't discuss this. We apologise for any frustration this may cause.

For other details of Magnetic Plaster you can visit the Rooms Made For You website and the British Gypsum website, but if there is anything else you aren’t sure about please let us know.

Note: this image has been updated with the correct version

@BritishGypsum Are you aware that the information on there contradicts itself or is misleading?

The first item listed in the 'key facts' is " maximum thickness * 3 mm" but in the 'installation guidelines' it goes on to say ''apply the first coat at 2-3mm", followed by 'apply a second coat at 1-2 mm thickness' thus suggesting a thickness of 5mm. I've tried to find what the asterisk alludes to but to no avail....... Maybe it means *just kidding :RpS_unsure:

Also on the info panel about different background compatibility, it suggests "applying Thistle GypPrime or damping down first" on damp undercoats "(if applying the skim coat on the same day)" when really that information is meant for the 'dry undercoat' application.
Not trying to be pedantic, but it just doesn't reflect very well on your company does it :RpS_thumbup:

EDIT: * Maybe it's ............... "£500 proof-reading fee for anyone finding simple errors"

Good spot @bubbles65 - we were too eager to get that posted! Sorry about that, please find the correct version attached below, which should make much more sense.

P.S Your proof reading fee is on its way :RpS_wink:

Thanks :RpS_thumbsup:

By the way, on the contact details the telephone number and fax number are the wrong way round*

*just kidding :RpS_wink:

You must give an rrp surely. To not even give us a rough idea. Also regards what bubbles highlighted. its not like you to rush something out without checking it does the job its supposed to do. Oh wait...

My only grave concern is hefty price as only cover 5 m2 - based on 3mm according to specs. Area will be less if I want 5mm thick.... I don't mind if price is reasonable - not some £60 quids per bag plus courier charges on top.

I'm using The Plasterers Forum Mobile App
even less at 10mm thick

I have a bag and of it and I am hoping to be using it very soon... I will lay it on like skim and post results....

My TPF crappy vistaprint magnets stuck lovely to the demo wall at BG :)

Can we go back to talking about trowel sizes now...
