Ey up folks.First post here. Cracking forum!

I'm rejoining the trade after taking a 3 year break and my first job is a ceiling reskim. It's a kitchen ceiling but with ready made downlight holes cut into the original skim and board. If I remember from the past, the plasterboard exposed in the holes sucks the water out the skim when applied. Any advice on slowing / preventing this or am I just going to have to crack on and deal with it?

Maybe bond with PVA?

Advice would be grand

Billy

Just crack on billy and dodge the droppers ;)

Yeah just slap it on marra, then once it's stiffened up a bit push your finger in the hole & poke out the clinkers :)

Because when plaster meets cut board it soaks into it,if its pva'd its easier to work around it and it cleans off better ,less chance of it falling down on you . I do it before fitting beads around sockets ,light fittings etc

hold your hawkboard under it whilst you scratch on and lay in. it shouldn't fall out after that. then just cut it out after second trowel.

i just keep my head to the side so if anything falls im out the way and cut it out as soon as ive put a coat on

Yeah piratepete shouldn't cut the holes out in the first place lol.
Most sparkys make a diagram & cut them out after but not always FFS :RpS_cursing:

You've far to much time on your hands to feck about wasting time doing that.

Why do you fit beads round sockets.?

Sorry, been self employed for 27 yrs running my own jobs ,making my own decisions I have no idea what ordinary trades people have to go through,,

Got a couple of pairs but the are in west Norwood London, haven't wore them in donkeys yrs

thats not too far away from me, i wanna try pick up n old cheap pair because i`ve never used them and i`d just like a pair to practice in, plus if i cant get on with them then at least i wouldnt have spent a fortune on them. had a go once for like a minute, didnt go too great plus practicing in a middle of a set of a great big massive lid.

I will lend them to you for a month, like them, you can buy them ,don't ,then bring them back ,ok? You may need to get new straps but easy enough online,

wow really!? thanks that would b fantastic, u about this weekend at all? question: if i practice walking around on the grass would this b a good or a bad idea, i`m thinking soft landing but bad footing?

practice in the living room then you have plenty of space and can hold onto the ceilin if you need to, thats what i did till i opened the patio doors and my mums dog ran in and knocked me off the bar stard
