I have just done a comparison on this for anyone interested in using machines in you daily work.

I have done 2 identical new build houses, worked out material cost and labour time. i'm not breaking records but average things out over a week Based on 1 plasterer and 1 labourer all nett of vat

1, Traditional sand cement. £ 1.30 mt 2 50 mts floated in a day upstairs

Not having done this in a while it was hard graft. Its heavy, the mix changes from nice to wet to stiff and depending on your help you could be waiting for gear. fair bit of waste too when scraped off ready to float. Gets easier on the ground floor but still not a nice feeling knowing your machine would have the wall on in 5 minutes and its gonna take you over 15.

2, Hardwall £ 2.25 m2 30-40 mts a day of finished walls rendered and set

That gives me time to get the job right, keep clean and make sure its right, go off do some beading and then skim it without steam coming out my ears. Very little waste. When there is more of you then the m2 will increase and you can get 2 sets of skim in aswell but for me that works well. I like that the room is finished, that everything happens indoors and that there is variety in the day. Nice to bill for x amount of finished work instead of 50% complete arguments. It dries quick enough even in winter

3, CPI £ 3.00 m2 80 mts floated a day

This was good in that you could float a good area per day and that everything can happen indoors with no need to clean the machine till the end of the day. Nice to work with but you will be looking at the waste you scraped off like its £££££ Its expensive way of doing things. Its not easy to get hold of a rep to order.

Well written Ian.i like the hardwall & CPI systems but not keen in the s&c way!!!
Was the hardwall put through the machine?
I am on a internal at the mo spraying both CPI and hardwall, well starting tomorrow.the CPI is over stonework so 2 coats.rhe hardwall is 2 coats also but over the tanking membraine.
The stairs are narrow and steep so the machine will earn its dollar no doubt.

You should not get any waste with s + c whats the scraping all about same with cpi and hardwall not even a carrier bag full

do you rule s/c wet. i can do it with cpi and hardwall but not with the sand i use down here. much easier to shave it

yeah, i normally try and rule my s/c wet , i also find that any s/c ruled off or dropped can go back in the next mix, cant normally do this withb the others,, intresting thread by the way :RpS_thumbup:

I know what you mean. I did a few houses in Llanelli a few years back and I could not believe how crap the sand was. We have a really good quarry here in cardigan for plastering sand of all grades and they export to far afield.

this gear is tearing and pulling of the conduits. cpi mortor would just sp..lread as did hardwall i usually put it back in the mixer or on the spot but had enuff to do the houses are in peniel but i got the sand from swansea. i used cardigan plasterers sand for spraying. its good stuff. i was gonna get it for this job but left it late. how much is it per ton loose or bagged.

About £14 a tonne plus VAT and haulage depending on how much you get. Not sure about bagged I've never got it that way but they do it. There's a guy near me who hauls the bags for them with his hiab truck, if you need his number let me know he goes Swansea area regular.

That's very cheap.loose is 30 and bagged from merchants is 38 down here, us vat!!!!

Bagged from the merchants is expensive here too £38 + VAT No delivery charge tho. Handy for small jobs otherwise I get a loose load direct from the quarry. Or sometimes take the trailer down an pick some up.
