how do you all get work from quotes for jobs. i did one a few days back vut they have'nt phoned me yet. i take a clipboard and measure the room then say i will work out the prices and phone them but at this quote was another plasterer who just looked at it then said could he have a word and i think said the price on the landing. i do'nt know if its too high a price or to just work it out there and then i said £400 for a box room 2X 2days

I would guess the other guy priced it for a day?

Was it just a reskim?

is 2×2days four days then:confused:

all my work is professional mate. 2 days is for 3 walls one day and one wall and the ceiling the other day. you could'nt do that in a day and keep quality. i do'nt know if customers want a direct quote there and then or if that looks un-professional

If you carnt price a job you shouldn't be doing it , end of .

Also I doesn't take 2 days to plaster 3 walls unless it's the Great Wall of china

I play by ear mate, sometimes I'll give a price there and then, others ill email or phone back (bigger jobs generally). The advantage of quoting on the spot is you can gauge their reaction and I find its harder for them to say no. As for tape measure, only for big jobs and boarding jobs.

thanks skimble:RpS_biggrin: i can price work mickeyboy i am trying to see how others price and what is the best method to do it and i'm city and guilds mate so tell me i shouldnt be doing it. really?

I never give a price on the spot unless its a few hours of patching ... measure up, do a quote and email...

Upto you whether you follow it up .... personally I don't chase quotes.... you'll make yourself an anxious wreck m8

it is 9ft by 8ft 2 mate i measured it. i was doing the ceiling as well and above the picture rails

Ok mate thats pretty much a standard sized box room, Most blokes i know and have worked with would do that in a day without sacrificing the quality of their work, even a day and a half if they wanted to milk it a bit.

Cant comment on your day rate as i don't know where abouts in the country you are but 2 days at £200 is a lot where i am.

With respect i would imagine the other guy got it cos he was cheaper, but not because he works cheaply maybe just quicker than you.

When you go to quote give them an estimate there and then gauge their response, then send them a written quote.

Well put mate :RpS_thumbup:

i would price a job like that by working out how long it will take, no need for tape measure,, i"m not going to comment on how long it should take dave but if you dont get it i would say its because unfortunately there are loads of spreads out there at the moment who are prepared to work for quite a lot less than £200 per day

I think its down to speed rather than people prepared to work for less, even if someone worked for the same rate they could have had a mega easy day and half still not had to drop their rate and still been cheaper.

Dave mate ... i think your going to struggle to get prices like that for skimming (400 for box room) ... Weather its worth it or not, weather your fast or slow.

I think £300 max with gear, and its a straight forward day.

Guys out there would be bashing that out in 5 hours for 150 quid.

The games hard at the mo.

As for quoting if its straight forward i give quote there and then if need work mats out i phone them in couple of days, don't go chasing work.

200 a day seems awfully expensive. And thats probly what the customer is thinking when they got your quote. Another plasteres probaly come in and asked what other prices are and undercut you and everyone else. You win some you lose some pal

Pritty decent wage so i would of put in for a day and a half , thats a hundred quid cheaper ... Wish i could get 400 quid for a box room ..... Lol

I price per set and take into account any prep work before. The price is the price it's not how much you earn in a day it's what you do in a day that matters.
