I have been using a speed skim for the past week or so.not sure at the moment if I'm using it right but not overly impressed tbh.
Using a ss trowel for first/second,then the speed for finishing it off.i like to put as much pressure on the ss trowel on cross trowel and for me you cannot do this with the speedskim.i don't flatten in first coat either,2 tight coats normally.
Any ideas?

Just for flattening bobby, can't trowel up with it.

You haven't understood the logic of it , you use it straight after you have the gear on when its wet , then go back and use your trowel to trowel up no wonder you wernt getin on with it . Trying to finish with it lol :RpS_thumbsup:

Bang first coat on ,flatten in with speedskim ,secand coat it ,flatten with speedskim, then ditch speedskim, its only for flattening

I think its because @bobby lays it on neat and so no need to flatten in :)

You will find uses for it I am sure... :D even @essexandy uses his every now and again :D

He hasnt been on since the mp finish trip. Maybe its cause he saw our speedskim and plastic skillz :p

I learnt with out a speed skim , and had plenty years before a got one , i put it on flat i. Anyways , still the speed skim flattens it in more , makes the 1st trowel a piece of piss , like said dont use it all the time that would be silly

i have to agree like the speed skim makes the job alot easier on large areas had mine 2 weeks now and its been a great bargain!

i mainly use speedskim on ceilings with a pole saves time as i dont use stilts it saves moving the crete or hop up round the room

thing is mate.. you still got to get up there to put the gear on.. and like I said the trowel flattens each coat anyway, and you got to get back up to trowel off, so to me, i dont see the point, but if it works for you, thats great.. tried mine out and thought they were ****, but thats just me..lol

Yes at first I don't like speedskim (drag marks, lines etc) but more practice with them the better it gets. It helps to flatten slightly uneven substrates
Same as that Ryan , but we could still be hung for using one :RpS_scared: 26 years of doing this ,one thing i have learned is ,everyone thinks there are the best in the game ,then you work along side them :RpS_cursing:

No smart arse answers but how do these things fair up if the wall/ceiling isn't perfectly flat? Like on a re-skim

That ,s what they are best at ,bit like a rule rather then a 14 inch trowel , just to get it flat ,then trowel away as normal
