I'm a time served plasterer and was looking for site work as my work has dried up and last job got cancelled.
Agency wants nvq level 2 or city and guilds.
How the hell do I get this for the cscs card to get on site.

The agency guy said I'm probably a better plasterer than those with the nvq but they are getting really fussy now!!!!!!

I just want to work!!!!!!!

:RpS_scared::RpS_scared::RpS_scared::RpS_scared:

Is there a short cut or am I **** out of luck??

You would have to contact your local college and explain your situation, you mite get a short night course mate... Worth a try pal..

Really you don't need qualifications just knowledge on health and safety, you do the test with cscs and then you get green labourers card then you are on site.

That Is exactly what I have got. Did the health and safety test and have a green site operative card. However, this company wants nvq level 2!!!!!!!

Phoned local college and they will come out to assess me on the job.
So I have no work for him to assess me and they want to visit about five times for me to pass. All that for £1400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems like a complete load of >?:mad:{

'' Time served '' did you do an apprentiship ?? if so, how come you didnt go to college ? you will have to spend some time and money, its the only way to get qualified I think...

Got to renew my car's this month only incase I need it ,it is a load of balls though ow much it the card and test now ? I paid 17 for test and think it was 30 for card but that was 5 years ago

I did not do it when I left school - A few years later.
Had to work two weeks free to get the old boy to take me on and teach me.
Learnt with him on the job till he retired.
Now been on me own for 9 years?

Sometimes you do things with out realising the implications a few years down the road!!!

Checked out ewpa and sent an email for details and prices.
Lost the site job though. Shame - it was on my doorstep and on going for two months:RpS_mad:

I did mine for free :)

Phone college up or even give GoldTrowel a call as I think they can organise it as well...

I told the college I was thick and didnt have any GCSE's and then it became funded :D

I had to take photos and had a few on site visits etc etc... it was a doddle
Same as I did then, its a lot of silliness,glad it was free, getting references, writing a safety report saying I saw a loose scaffold board and told the foreman, as dumb as the security exams I once did.

time served also means I've Been doing it a jolly long time and know what I'm doing

Basically if you say you are thick ie no gcse, have a drink problem or drugs or are in receipt of any kind of benefit such as jobseekers,housing benefit or even a council tax rebate you can get up to lvl2 training free. The missus' mate works at one of the training places near us and the afore mentioned is basically the criteria for accessing free training.

Anything instead of pay£1300 to do what you do everyday but for less

Spoke to gold trowel in Essex and they want £650 for a days assesment which will gain nvq level 2. Supposed to be 2 days but I would not need the first day due to my experience.
That is the ewpa scheme. Still a lot of money but it's the best option I've got so far.

Funny - I remember when Gold trowel was frowned upon years ago because "You can't learn in two weeks!"
My how times change!!

Plastering qualifications are a joke nowadays, same as most other trades, just go and do the day, least you get a qualification..

go and pay the £1400 then you be able to go on site and compete with a load of easterns on a couple of quid a metre, less tax!

The labourer i use now and again was on the dole for a while and he got sent to one of the local training compaines and they turned up at 9am sat around till lunch doing nowt and got sent home. He had to do this for 3 weeks and on his last day he did the cscs test on the computer and got his card. The training company wanna keep you there as long as possible to milk the government system. He then progressed to another course at the college for 2 weeks learning how to right a CV...........................:rolleyes)

No mate it don't. Once you've got your nvq level 2 you then need to apply for the cscs card and do a health and safety test. That bit aint a lot of money though.
