A Textured Alternative?

I'd priced a job to 2 coat render plain flat rubbed/sponged. Got a call today to say they fancy something textured like Tyrolean? Its a tricky job but Tyrolean will be a nightmare with all the masking up (on this job particularly) so cost would scare them off? so as you lot are up to date on alot of these modern renders etc I thought I'd ask if you could recommend an alternative? something that would fit the bill?

Am a bit miffed to be honest John as I know if I add the extra cost to Tyrolean this house it will scare them off/ make them get other quotes?? The amount of masking up would be at least a week plus cost of tyrolean etc :RpS_confused:

I agree @Rossi46 but I did this stuff in Germany called reibeputz (don't know what it is here but I've seen it done on new builds and the ewi system? Its spread thinly and scoured up/rubbed up with a thin plastic float.

I didn't like STO much and preferred Marmorit as that was bagged and not premixed in tubs I found Marmorit finished better but that's just my opinion? Its been that long ago since I did any of it I only know the German words for it lol :RpS_laugh:

I have just Googled the German word and looked at the images..... Marmorit do this finish and call it Rolls in the UK (it is not on their UK website, but I know it still exists as I have seen them present it in a CPD last year).

Kratzputz is German k rend and all others copied it I think

Kratz putz is German but cement based not silicone. (It means scratched plaster/render) :RpS_thumbup:

I appreciate your input and will need some prices to relay to the customer etc so will give you a shout

I bet very good money that all of the European suppliers do a similar finish.... but I have only ever seen Marmorit offer it.... make some enquiries to several of them on Monday.

Is this tyrolean job wanting doing before May? Not the best time as Tyro needs dry air or it can take a day or two. But there again the acrylic bucket coats are useless until the humidity is below 80%. Too much chance of a wash off.

With tyro there is always loads of masking up and it can take longer that the actual spraying. Worse still is if the tyro goes into a second day, the overnight dew makes the masking up come off and you have to start all over again! grrr.

There is cement based versions of acrylic bucket coat out there. Sets in a few hours but you have to paint it afterwards. Looks good but mention painting it to a customer and they will not have it they want self coloured. idiots don,t realise that modern textured renders get dirty quickly. A wall painted with a good silicone or nano paint will look good for longer. I have done some but applying is different to the bucket coat stuff. Easy to get a piecing line if you are not on the ball. But good for winter if you have the experience and good with a roller and brush. Seen loads of this stuff last year in Barbados. Bucket coat is no good out there. Something to do with the humidity.

Yes! tyrolean all over the place then within a few minutes everything is clean as before you started and the jobs a good un!

Well that some good info there,thanks Rigsby. I've only ever tyroleaned the off white colour in winter as the coloured stuff tends to dry inconsistent (not on about blooming) I was geared up for this nice render job which was all priced and arranged last year etc and today they ring and decide they want a texture and not flat!? Don't know why I'm suprised this kind of thing happens a lot in our game :RpS_laugh:

get a Romanian or Bulgarian to mask up,,, :RpS_laugh::RpS_laugh:
