Why is there 2 types?
I have the 1200mm one and have had it a year . The blades look the same at first glaze bit we've been trying to remove it for a few hours on and off and no joy !

Push the black plastic tab in at the end, pull end cap out, then slide the blade straight out.

Hi Scott I've soaked the blade in water as advised and that's done the trick blade out !
Good advise and service all round from speedskim.

Cheers Lee

Make sure that you oil the groove with 3 in 1 or a bit of grease to stop that happening in future. It also allows the blade to expand when it's warm to stop it warping.

I was going to buy the 1200 speed skim but will hold fire until the new blade reviews come in. I've used the 600 for a while now and it's used for flattening first coat only.

The new blades are spats so you don't need to wait. I use my speedskims for flattening off both coats, any reason you don't by the way

I've used my speed skim to rule off render for fine down! Spot on it was! Also when you use it for flattening skim it takes a lot less skim off the wall than a stainless spat(which can only be good(what's the point of laying it on only to pull Half of it off lol!)

I tend to use it on ceilings only. Once the first coat is under control I think laying on and finishing with my 16 refina s*p*r*lex is easy with no need for the speed skim. Also I think it does not flatten well enough to pass as a finished job. The 1200 with pole attachment sounds the right size and especially on Artex ceilings as it will help speed up the pulling in so as to put on the second coat a bit sooner.

so reading over this thread it seems most have or prefer speed skim to the others right? is there a difference in them

what one are you lot using for closing in the mono render and is it a plastic blade or a SS blade ?

I use a plastic speedskim after a mist of water. Less drag/tear with the plastic.

No John it's a cavity closer with a bit of metal as a handle, apparently he's bringing out one with a metal handle that might be worth a look but as far as I know noones tried one yet

i,ve got a bit of metal 14inch long with a plastic handle Dave , works ok ,but if it was 1200 long , me being a re***d ,it should cover a wider area faster , or is it just me mate :RpS_unsure:

how will they nail it to the blocks on the reveals if its metal?

Theres a few on here who are tryin out the metal blade speedys .....testers:rolleyes)
As far as I know I've probably had 15 trowels and maybe I've been happy with 3-4 of those that will leave a good finish, the others have bent a bit or whatever
what I don't get is how you can get an acceptable finish with a Darby that doesn't keep constant contact and never wears in like a trowel ?
you could say you're finishing with a plastic but all I've found is if you use them too early it either furs up or does all **** all?.....it could be me fair play if people get on with them but I can't see how unless you're flattening a first coat

The only thing that matters is the painted finish. I completely respect the traditionalists that resist modern methods (modern to the UK that is) bud I don't really mind what tool someone uses to achieve that.

I want one for closing in mono. Currently I have a serrate edge followed by a spatch that is 600mm wide thee things are 1200mm wide or more thats why I want to know if they are any good at closing mono in as I could be using a 1200 blade instead of 600 blade......

only snag is i pay around 12 quid for a good 600mm spat so double the size double the price ? £24 quid ish, will that get me wht I want.

Forget the speed skim it'll be ****** in 5 mins on scaffold and will tear it rather than close it in and you can't get the pressure on, the ****** spats are ok if you get on it as soon as you've ruled it but you end up chasing it like you're darbying it you can leave it neater with a spat and it's quicker let the I section sort it out

Such b*ll***s, you are guessing rather than talking from experience.

Why does it need to stay in perfect condition when all you're doing is closing render?

It doesn't tear like steel does, get on it early.

A spat doesn't leave it neater and it isn't quicker.

And WTF does it matter if the i section sorts it? :RpS_lol:

Blah blah blah Mickey Mouse plasterer blah blah blah did his first mono job recently blah blah blah **** off :)
