Anybody had an apprentice through citb? What grants do they give?

Reluctant to go through the youth training again as they usually give up but may consider it.

depending on age 16-24 you get £1500 off the government (eligible after your lad or las has done 13 weeks) plus can take 9weeks to get that through. CITB pay a total of £6000 for a 2 year stint and £10,250 for a 3 year apprenticeship its all paid in stages at 13 week intervals I think? my lad only just started this September but a few of the lads I do jobs for have CITB apprentices and say they get £400+ every 13 week block. I've had nowt yet but as I say he's just started. hope this helps?

just checked that extra £1500 off the government is only eligeable till December 2013 and they must be between 16 -24

Interesting? The money could be used for such as non productive pay when a college or in the winter months. Up to 24 as well so no need for a teeny bopper.

Im thinking on the same lines rigsby. but what age bracket do you get them at?. A youngin who knows nowt might be easier to mould than a 20yr old who has bad habits but is more mature.........................:RpS_confused:

No the teens cannot handle the graft and the cold. Had loads in the 90's. I find 21 year olds with a pregnant girlfriend in toe has more to offer. Probably been a loser for his youth and now wants to get his act together. Stronger at 21 too.

Well a pregnant girlfriend motivates the las to get his act together but then I think of 2 lads I had who after losing a nights sleep to a screamy baby they would not turn up for work. So thinking about it perhaps a 21 year old with a 2 year old and had the snip.

The lad I used to work with encouraged his lads to get in debt to motivate them, my brother in laws a chippy he pays his lad 20 quid a day the rest is subsidised on an apprentaship I tthink we've got a 17 year old and he nearly couldn't get on site because apparently due to new h+s you can't do heavy lifting before you're 18

that's a good theory for motivating, I try and employ similar- young family men with mouths to feed, so the idea of blobings not usually on there mind.

I took my son on as an apprentice through citb. I ended up phoning every other week regarding the grant money and train fares i was promised. I only ever received part of what I was entitled to and took him off the scheme after 8months.The day after I received calls from 3 different people people, 1 apologising, 1 passing the buck and the other saying that unfortunately the funding was not yet in place but i should get some money by the end of the first year. This was my experience but should anyone doubt me they are welcome to view their e-mails.
