Anyone had any bad experiences removing a radiator to skim in behind it? Doing a reskim on a house from top to bottom and 2 of the three rads I've taken off so far, the valves have started leaking. It's not as if I've gone in heavy handed to take them off. They're fairly old rads & valves & they just seem to want to leak at the slightest touch. One I've manage to stop eventually, but have tightened the valve I the other as much as I can but its still leaking. Only 4 more rads to take off & put back on!

Does anyone gets plumbers in, if they get jobs like this or do u normally manage on your own?

get a plumber in cos ya public liability wont cover you if it goes tits up unless you've got plumbing quals

Tell the customer to deal with it,save yourself a sore head.:RpS_crying:

If its just the valve letting by, insert a 5p piece into a compression nut and screw onto valve while the rads off the wall. Works a treat!!!

i will take rads off myself for friends and family jobs sometimes but as for a customer i don't know then me touchy radiator, can easily become a massive **** sandwich that you got no choise but to eat. get a plumber in. you only need 1 leak and it can cause much more £££ worth of dammage than you have earned and it could look fine when you leave but if it leaks a few hours, days, weeks after you gone you still get blamed as you were the last to touch it.
theres a lot of talk on here about people who are not plasterers plastering and that they should leave it to a pro so are we not hypocrits if we try to do a plumbers job with out the propper training and knowledge?
its tempting to charge someone £20 or so a rad to whip off and put back after you skimed cos it takes 2 mins and is easy money, untill it goes wrong which it will then u fuked

i take them off but always say they need a plumber to refit them as leaks can occur for a variety of reasons, the thermostatic ones need caps on them while the are off..

back in the day we used to always remove ourselfs on jobs, but after many potencuail and actual problems always state to get a plumber in to to it if they want it skimmed behind. water troubles can get expensive , f00k that.

By all accounts my public liability covers me to take rads off as long as its part of my plastering job,I can't just take a rad off for say, a mate ,get a leak and then av a claim up I wouldn't be covered,I think that's wor was explained to me I HOPE so anyway. For the record I don't touch em anyway too much agg.

Lol crazy spreads taking rads off to skim. I'm also a qualified plumber and I don't even touch them when plastering. Why would ya when it's easy to blend in behind and the customers usually left a load of paper on behind anyways.

In an ideal world yea but where do you stop?
