I have never used a sponge apart from to clean skirtings and walls after patching chases.
So how do u do it ?
I was on a job the other day and another spread was there a lad in his early twenties and he uses a sponge float and gets a descent finish (not as good as mine of course lmao) so would or could a few of you explain your process please cos i could not see how he was saving any time/being more productive.
His process was :
1. lay on one thick coat
2. leave to pick up then flatten
3. leave to pick up a bit more then spray with water and sponge up
4. trowel it off
5. Polish off

I have always two coated and to me he is touching the wall just as many times as me !

Oh dear god,

I know exactly john but honestly it looks ok when finished, well if i,m totally honest most of it looks ok and i think he may have been taught by a builder but assures me he went to college and was told there that sponging was ok ?

That's the procedure, if I 2 coat I flatten in if I sponge I save myself this time also my hour and half setting time starts when I lay on if I was 2 coating it would start when I put my second coat on

this arguement is as old as the pyramids and there are no winners please stop

"I am not trying to start an argument i am trying to understand the process "if you do not and never will use a sponge please look away now" It is a simple case of, if i understand the process and feel it would be ok to use it in certain circumstances i may use it.

If everyone who is new here to the forum just searched and found out what they needed then they would hardly join in as much.sometimes it would be nice if people with thousands of posts just shut up and let the new lads have an opinion even if its not new and most probably been said before, it is new for them!:)
