:RpS_cursing:Been using speed skim tool all week with Lee who thought of it. I worked with him 15 years ago but been off tools for 10 years. Speed skim makes plastering a pleasure, really enjoyed using it (sad) but true. Well done harrpoon

That's great Marra!, welcome to the forum:RpS_thumbup: glad Lee got in with it too:rolleyes)

Speedskim Introduction & User Guide

I used mine today im so sorry I want to like it but it ruined the wall and it was only the first coat bring on the 4 foot darby with the Refina plastic

Hi mate - It doesn't ruin the wall - We have found through customer feedback that any problems in using the Speedskim are due to not following the right procedure.

You just have to flatten in/Speedskim straight away. No waiting for the plaster to pick up. Leaves as flat as pancake....accelerates the general skimming process and yet at the same time the nature of the pvc blade (reduction in surface moisture) buys you time so you are not rushing around.

Less sweat less fatigue.

If you purchased a Speedskim we want you to get the best out of it..

This may be helpful and to others considering purchasing :RpS_thumbup:

Speedskim/Skim coat 'how to'

  1. Apply Multi-Finish or Board Finish with trowel as you would normally.
  2. Immediately after plaster application apply your Speedskim® and flatten back.
  3. As Speedskim® doesn’t bring any moisture to the surface this now allows immediate application of the second coat.
  4. Repeat - Immediately after plaster application apply your Speedskim® and flatten back.
  5. Now wait for Multi-Finish or Board Finish to pick up as you would normally.
  6. Trowel up or Sponge/Trowel - whichever is your preferred method.

It only tears if you go on way too late mate. If you look at the video there's not a single tear and it perfectly flat. Theres no special effects...:RpS_thumbup:

40m2 in 2 minutes..

I tried it over 1 bag and its 0 degrees

Very unusual to hear - Sounds like there could be other factors mate. Please give us a call and we can talk about the exact conditions and our recommendations 0845 6000 227 its local rate and we dont mind calling you back :RpS_thumbup:

If I said it was warm what would I do differently? It's standard board I know what a Darby is I don't need too much help on that one ........ Do you think it was because it was cold and the vibration thingymejig or whatever else didn't work or was it because it was early in the morning and the gravitational pull on the moon was at its weakest?

Yes I think its definitely a case of Lunar activity :

Give us a call in the morning mate and we will tell you where you are going wrong :)

It's a Darby I don't know what you're going to try and teach me, I'm happy to listen now if you could give me a few pointers
one of my sons use a piece of cavity closer to flatern in his first coat. but he puts his first coat on a lot thicker then we do. so it is every one to their own method. i can not see the reason to rule set, i was always taught to float tight and set tight.

Hi mate - Its a flexible rule and the pointers are in post #6 . If you apply this method you wont have any issues. Its tried and tested but we would be more than happy to talk you through it.

Spunky how can you tear wet plaster? One bag on flatten straight away, then another flatten.

Plastering under 5 degrees tut tut shame on you

What happens then if your on your own doing a 30/40 m2 ceiling by the time you go back to the beginning it would have picked up defeating the object of the speedskim, not having a pop at you cos I bought one a couple of months ago.

I don't know you could ask me bod gibbo nick and beddy the same question there's a couple of years experience amongst that lot everyone's said the same it tears it
im terribly sorry but from my experience there more of a hindrance, keep the price the same and change the blade

That's not the feedback from customers who have purchased from us. Interesting list.

There have been one or two paying customers who have needed technical help but after explaining the process and best practice they are very happy with the results. In fact more than happy and wouldn't be without the product

Having said that if you cant get on with Speedskim we have said several times that its down to personal routines and preference. If you dont wish to apply the science and have an easier day we accept your view :)

The moisture is not brought to the surface so the plaster sits well so none of the usual rushing around. The video shows a normal routine and the finished results were perfect. Skimming that wall was no effort on your own. It was a studio in Saffron Walden and the client was extremely pleased with the results.

You can get more hits on - on large areas its good to plan it out like any other method.

It's from people I personally know that are very good plasterers good luck who knows I might get on with it one day but at the mo I think there a ******* useless sales gimmick

Sorry you feel that way mate. You are entitled to your opinion and your traditional method of plastering but its a minority. Its not a gimmick - BG are using in their training academies and colleges and new training centers are embracing it each week too. Using Speedskim can make the routine much easier allowing the potential to get more done. Older plasterers are benefiting from a reduction in aches and pains and younger Plasterers are reducing the risk of developing those ailments later in life.

Ok once again for the hard of hearing :RpS_laugh:

Lay a bag on flatten it off, then another flatten off. Repeat this until the area is fully covered.

Then allow to pick up. Whip over it with a speedskim again then trowel/spat till finished.

i get on fine with mine............just thought id add that, did have problems with the earlier model but since ive had the newer one not had any troubles, i usually lay on a wall flatten it off and just keep goin till ive ran out of either muck or time on first wall, never had it tear unless ive left it too late in which case its ready for a trowel flatten anyway:RpS_confused:.
