Were laying plastic membrane before insulation goes down inc an upstand then screed, we've been asked to attatch the membrane to membrane that protrudes 300mm from the block around all edges of the room
Ensuring a good overlap and using tape to secure it
Had anyone done it like this its a fookin mare the membrane that's already down is filthy dusty etc and everything has to be perfectly flat which doesn't happen

its normal enough a request for screeds,we would of used battens to hold it, its a bit like making an upside down bed..

last screed i did was like this but the builder put the membrane in before we came along, as soon as the screed touched it, it pulled the membrane off the wall and down into the screed, twas a pain in the arse constantly trying to get it up and out the way, plus in places once th weight of the screed was on it there was not enough to go up the wall and it would dissapear into the floor never to be seen again:RpS_cursing:

definitely been there Jr

There's already 300mm of membrane on the floor coming from the very bottom of the blocks where it meets the floor all around the rooms, our job is too fill out the rest of the floor with membrane and join it to the existing membrane with tape and leave it all on the floor it doesn't run up the wall the up stands insulation

I would usually bring the membrane up the wall and just trim it off, this is weird it's a nightmare to get the 2 to stick

try quick spray windolene on the existing wipe it clean as poss wid a cloth duck tape shud stick then

Cheers jackom were giving it a clean and irs a bit better its just when you hit a ridge in the plastic.........**** system I offered just to make an upsrand with the plastic and he goes no no it has to be done like this because im a backward arsed country ****

This is what I've always done Dave. I've never ever been asked to the damp course, and that's with many DPMs being checked by building control. The only time a joint is taped even in the middle of a large room is if a Radon membrane is being put in, and that's not even tape as such.

i think that that the person who is giving this instruction to you on this screed has got it wrong.
there is a method on very large areas, when you join poly. that you fold it into each other to make a joint.

Cheers Andy malc I think im wrong and it is a radon barrier, is that methane? Bear with me I don't do screeds im just the bitch putting the insulation down

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas Dave. You would still not tape the Radon membrane to the dpc though. The Radon membrane is taken up the walls above screed height as previously said and then trimmed off. If the area dictates a join in the membrane then you'd need to use the proper joint seal which is best described as a thin line of gum on a strip of paper to make application easier. The sealant is bloody pricey, I think the membrane is always red (mine always has been) so that it can be easily spotted if the wrong one is used.

Sorry Andy forgot to say we did get the tape, like blue tac on a roll ? There were mf studs and block walls do you think that's why were joining it so they get the membrane under these first?

Yeah that could be the reason mate, I think they can either put the membrane in at oversite level or in the screed. "Blue Tac", that's a better description than my "gum" effort.

I think i probably posted a bit late myself to be honest lol. No worries......may come in useful sometime
