Sick of seeing so called tradesmen not wearing overalls that includes plasterers and painters .track bottoms covered in plaster or caulk ,they even get on the train like it.

I'm one half of a double act who both recently started wearing 'Bib & Braces' we're now fondly known as the 'Chuckle Brothers' on site!
At least our clothes are clean underneath.

sad to say that it seems that this has become the norm for people in the construction trade............ See them everywhere!

I have a feeling that materials have become safer and safer and now the need to leave your dirty cloths on site or in the van is not seen as a necessary act....

either that, or no one gives a damn anymore (which I think is more likely)

When I did my engineering apprenticeship (not as long ago as you might think...), taking care of your cloths with overalls was fairly important - but we were only earning a pitance........LOL

Usually wear overalls, but now I know it pisses off Superspread,, I shall be mostly wearing dirty track bottoms now,and taking the train and public transport in general:RpS_wink:

I wear overalls (boiler suit in Royal blue). It is a habit I am used to doing and on the job look a bit of a scruff with the rend-aid, sbr and silicone all over me. But underneath I have the company uniform nice and clean. So clean that when I get home I can't be arsed to get changed unless I am having a shower.

Now my 3 lads have a company uniform, black cargo's, royal blue sweat shirt or t shirt and a hi vis bomber jacket. Covered in sbr, silicone or rend-aid and look like tramps but all in the same colours so smart looking tramps.

I have to take them to work and take them home as they cannot drive and if left to find their own way home on a bus they bodge and scarper as soon as. Sod that, to risky so taxi fare home it is and a blanket supplied for the cab so long as I book it at 4pm.

I think a lot of it is down to us all driving to and from work now instead of using public transport. But I agree, these loppy sods in tracky bottoms and base ball caps look like smack heads.

I always change my clothes at work i get my work wear from englebert Strauss cargo bottoms and a lightweight t shirt

We wear grey hoodies and work bottoms and it doesnt seem to show up all the dust as much

I even wear different overalls when I'm sbr slurrying or thistle bond it so I don't cake up my plastering overalls lol

Theres is a couple of spreads that go into my merchants in white bib and brace and they look professional. I used to wear a bib and brace when I was a full time spread but the company I was an apprentice with all the men wore them.

Think today's young spreads wouldn't stand for overalls. But lets face it, plastering must be the muckiest game in the building trade. We are not doing ourselves any favours looking like scruffs or smack heads. we can understand why we are mucky but in the eyes of other tradesmen we are scruffs and scruffs usually are low intelligence and low paid.

This new fashion of having a week old beard makes any male look a scruffy ******* in my eyes. Can't stand em. Reminds me of that arrogant arse Gary Barlow. Should be recalled Clarence the cross eyed lion (showing my age now lads, Daktari).

Not the image we are needing to give.

New year ,..must wear overall and shave more often ...:RpS_blushing:

Joggin bottoms and printed t-shirts with me names on for me, or in summer, shorts and t-shirt.. personally I don't think overalls look professional these days, its not the 1930s, but each to their own! Ive never once had a customer complain or make a comment, the fact I turn up in a very cleanly kept van, sign written, and do a good job is all that matters to them.

I worked once with a crazy plasterer, he used to wear his jumper inside out during the day and then turn it around going home. absolutely true, probably been sectioned by now. I wear tracksuits for work and change out of them in the evening, the are cheap and you can throw them away, I think the overalls are old fashioned and a bit 'bob the builder now' Sorry My uncle once went plastering wearing only Y fronts and wellies, before my time but two west I****n plasterers jacked saying"paddy man is mad"

If we're really gonna be anal, we might as well go back to the days where tradesmen used to turn up for work in a suit..

**** all that ****, Shorts, t shirt, go to work, bring the crap home with ya, take it all off, sit in pants on me laptop, have a bash, go n shower, change, go prices jobs in clean clothes, eat, tv, go to bed.. and so the cycle continues. Ooooosh

Old, old, school plasterers workwear,no track bottoms In sight...
