Hi members. I`m new to this forum but I need a little bit of information.

I have been working for a company for the past twelve years but it recently went into admin and folded. I have not picked up a trowel for almost two years because of two knee operations and have been living off state handouts. Benefits have been cut to nothing leaving me with no other choice but to return on the trowel.

I have decided to go on my own, I`ve had business cards printed and delivered them to almost every house in the town, I got a phone call a couple of days ago asking me to skim a room 15ft x 12ft with twelve foot high ceiling. The background is mechanically sound and only requires skim beads on the chimney breast to square it off as opposed to the original wooden round.

Considering I have not done work for myself for years has anyone got a reasonable figure in mind for such work?

Kind regards Denn

If you need the work mate, just put in a price working on a modest day rate with materials for however long you think it will take you.

Good advice from lilharbs, but be quick giving them the quote, if they called a couple days ago and you ain't got back to them they might go elsewhere, or someone else may get in in before you:RpS_thumbup:

North West...Manchester?
Celing and walls...three guages...One and a half days (fcuk doin 3 guages a day)

Here up north...around £120 a day = £180 plus materials.

Hello,

Its about £100-120 in Leicester and Nottingham at the moment, but there is not a lot about at the moment. Skimming walls and ceilings.

Good one Fatarm ,also this time of year people want their homes ready for Christmas ,so get back ASAP ,best of luck mate

Call the people up and ask to view the job with the view to price it when you get there. I never piece over the phone, did it once, got the job when I got there it was not as described. Artex on the ceiling, silk vinyl paint on walls, more windows than expected.
When I tried to increase the price they said the price is the price and the things I mentioned, they couldn't see it made any difference.

In the end I walked and never did it.

Benefits cut leaving you no choice but to return to the trowel , really , so if not you would of still been sat on yer arse !, then to top it it off your too fookin lazy to price your own work.
