MF ceilings completely independent?

If I was to put up MF ceiling to cover up a old knackered ceiling, would it be completely independent of the old ceiling, or would it require some kind of support fixings through to the joists?

Im thinking more of my health, over boarding is not to bad, but when the ceiling is knackered I'd rather MF it then take it down, to much mess. Providing the customer is willing to pay.

Cause MF looks quick as f**k set up laser, bang it up, could prob get a large ceiling done in a few hours, prob cut all the bars with diamond blade.

Spread you laugh now but you won't when your lungs are f**ked

freed,if we are talking about a ceiling in a house,in my opinion it would look shite.iv'e lost count of the rip downs iv'e done on behalf of insurance companies, and its not pleasent, but it's the correct way.
why cant the ceiling you are talking about be over boarded?

Why you think it would look shite? I haven't got a ceiling in mind, I'm just thinking it is a possibility after the largest plastering contractor in Bristol used this system instead of the system I suggested (overboarding, taking down) on a job I lost out on.

Youll still be smashing holes in the old ceiling to fix the hangers to the joists. It dosnt sound like youve done an MF ceiling before

No I haven't. I have done them with timber though. Thats what I though from the pictures thanks pft.

They probably got the job instead of you because they knew what they were talking about and thats not a dig but fact by the sounds of the question you have asked in this thread.

Sounds like a dig Flynny wouldn't expect anything else from you to be honest. I actually got the job, but then noticed other things in the house that required works and the customer wanted me to include free of charge, the price was already tight so I turned it down.

I was simply interested in the system.

Oh and there specification was exactly the same as mine apart from for 2 ceilings which they used MF instead of taking down.

Don't make sense in a house, you lose 92mm just on board, top hat, and primary channel and that's with not tolerance for levelling which you would need to do unless you just tacked the top hat to the joists but then why wouldnt you overtack with just board if you weren't gonna level it. Plus it is expensive as hell! Great system tho.

It wasnt a dig honest, and i wasnt surprised by your response coz the truth isnt what you like to hear. You come on this forum asking for advise for jobs you are pricing and make out you know what your talking about, when you are given advise you think its a dig. MF isnt as simple as "quick as f**k set up laser, bang it up, could prob get a large ceiling done in a few hours, prob cut all the bars with diamond blade." there is more to it than that, like the basics of hangers off existing ceiling. You said " the largest plastering contractor in Bristol used this system instead of the system I suggested (overboarding, taking down) on a job I lost out on." so thats what my comment was refering to, then to come back saying, "you got the job but then noticed other things in the house that required works and the customer wanted me to include free of charge". This is why the other firm got the work coz they noticed this stuff in the begining and priced for it and you underpriced it like so many chancers ive been pricing against, (that was a little dig) They are more experienced and noticed it which is what i was pointing out. Then you go on to say "Oh and there specification was exactly the same as mine apart from for 2 ceilings which they used MF instead of taking down." now read that bit again then again and then again and if you need to keep reading it back you dont get it! they are not exactly the same.

Couldn't you just find the joists, chalk line and counter batten with timber Freed?
Sounds sensible, especially if the sparkie has been in ripping stuff to shreds or they want a bit of insulation putting in. Battens could be set to board length as well to make things easier (and less waste). We don't rip down (unless its very bowed - water leak etc) as the mess is horrendous - soot and **** everywhere.
Only ever done one suspended ceiling using a framework + soundblock boards to try and cut noise between two flats.

Flynny you got a massive chip on your shoulder, without seeing the quotes side by side, seeing the job, speaking to the builder who passed the job on to me, knowing what the final bill was, you have no place to comment, all your replies are based on assumption alone.

I didn't need the job anyway, I'm flat out and can pick and choose my jobs. Everytime I get undercut by another spread I just think its some idioit like you working for peanuts while i'm earning double what you are on another job.

I dont need to see the quotes, the stupid questions you come on here asking about jobs your pricing or doing says it all, jog on chancer ive seen them come and go on here and in real life so get a grip and try and learn to take some critisism, for the stupid stuff your asking. Its your customers i feel sorry for.

see mate, you really are a wally. its not just me that thinks it

This is like a bitchfest .....lol 1st its was spunky & RS. Danny mac & Gibbo yesterday then longer stroker turns up and he needs a thread to himself to tell us all how good he is. I love this forum .......:RpS_laugh:

oh im not. iv only ever given you constructive critisism. but so far you got cried coz you didnt know how to bead an arch, you then plastered to the top of a skirting, then denied it and then said its fine and got stroppy. then you get some crazy idea about putting mf on domestic ceilings when you dont know how to do it in the first place. again youve got stroppy when someone inevitably takes the piss as they can see this quite clearly. then you ask if you bead a ceiling first and then board up to the beads?? then a silly asbestos question. not to mention you float ocr with a tilers sponge and dont know why your struggling. and then how do you plaster high ceilings. seriously mate. you sound like youve been doing it about 6 months. and then you get all cocky telling us all how you pick and choose your work coz your so busy. doesnt really add up. your either lying, very inexperienced or a chancer. i may be wrong but thats how you come across
