Dont post in here if....

DOnt post on the site begging for work!

If you have posted a bit before hand and have actually participated on the biggest plastering forum on the net then you are more than welcome to post.

But I will be making changes to this section soon enough

All posts from members who have a post count less than 15 who are trying to get work will be removed.

Regard

The Plasterers Forum

Well unless you are someone who is not a plasterer and is looking to give some work out then you can post but if you are a plasterer looking for work then you have to post on teh site first

The members have worked hard to get the forum where it is today and that is why one post wonders get removed :)

you gotta give before you can take :)

Are you allowed to post in the 'public looking for a plasterer' thread as your 1st/only post ?

yes mate, if youre a member of the public looking for a plasterer then of course you are...

the rest of the thread is directed at what we in the trade call 'one post wonders', people that contribute nothing to the discussions, and therefore are impossible to, shall we say 'vet' by the other established, and therefore 'vetted' members (plasterers as opposed to idiots straight off a 5 day course begging for work and making US all look like a bunch of idiots when they f'ck the job right up)

I totally understand that. I was being a bit facicous (sp) because I had previously posted a request asking if anyone could give my lad a start, and the post was removed. He went to college for a couple of years to learn the trade and get a qualification which he now can't use as there seems to be sod all out there for youngsters (apart from one man bands who just want a skivvy and pay below minimum wage). I'm sure he'd love to come on here and share his experiences of the trade. Trouble is he can't get any. Perhaps he should put on an eastern european accent :RpS_mad:

Well why not let your son introduce him self and maybe share his thoughts on his time at college and what he learnt as practical skills etc and maybe give an insight into the way youngsters are learnt and if in fact if he did learn anything, failing that maybe some linguistic courses may be an alternative option this may well expedite his transition into the industry

I'll try to get him on here. Thanks for the advice.

Just cos your boy went college and is qualified he still needs experience and unfortuneitlyhes going to have to start at the bottom and work his way up that means s**t money and someones skivvy but it will only be for a year or two tillhe picks it up properly. Most of what he learn at college will go out the window if he wants to earn decent money on sites or in homes.

Plus, most plasterers don't actually have qualifications, just experience and that's what makes a good plasterer. Not a piece of paper that says you've spent years stood in a little cube the size of a wardrobe with a trowel in your hand. People come off courses and think they're plasterers. When was the last time his teacher placed a sofa, 2 armchairs and a tv stand in the middle of a room and asked him to skim the ceiling? Working in a class room is completely different to being out there doing it. The only thing from a course that you benefit from is learning how to keep the s**t on your trowel, everything else comes from experience working with a good spread.

P.S Danny, what about new members that are plasterers looking for plasterers? It seems like an obvious answer but you should cover all the Ts&Cs in this thread so it doesn't cause confusion lol:RpS_thumbup:

I remeber this guy was thinking we could give the lad a try, but he did not bother to post anything up himself.

If someone can't even be bothered to turn a computer on and post on a forum then his career as a spread does not look promising

youngsters of to day want everything handed to them, thats what ive noticed from people ive taken on and sacked off in the past, couple of months work and they reckon thier a plasterer and demanding a oner a day, try explaining to them that they have much much more to learn before i even start paying them anything near what thier after, they just get the hump and fook off. so far ive only come accoss one lab who seams interested in learning and im trying to teach him at the moment

ooo!!!yes, yes, yes i was sure that i'm a plasterer after my first 1000sm:RpS_biggrin: everything seemed so simple but live's the best teacher. And this Forum proves it.

we are a plastering contractor and yes we are real spreads we come with over 40 years experience between us just recently joined this site i see the owner is wanting everyone on here to take the site seriously to me there seem to be quite a few less serious members on here..one word SHAME

is this site really a plasterers forum its more like plasterers taking the piss out of other plasterers??i have been on here for less than a day and im finding it more like a bored house wifes convention!

Lots of great advice and help here..., work gets passed about people meeting when they are travelling up and down the UK... Tools being leant out when you are down on your luck... Products to test and play with... First for news and information...

Yes there is banter but life is too short to be serious all the time and this is after work hours... questions are answered quickly and we help the general public out a lot, so yes, we are a forum for plasterers, we are a community that sticks together and looks after each other when we need it.
