Started a nice job today. A green oak barn conversion plus new build extension with swimming pool. 1st phase is the barn itself, then the pool and bedroom wing.

Wow - Nice.
I went to 2 new builds on Sandbanks today - £2.5m each....... very modern design. But I would prefer to live in this!

Tony I've probably asked you before but home come its being taped? I don't know anyone who's asked for a job to be taped instead of skimmed. Do you just persuade them to have it or is that the spec already?

Most of these jobs are timber framed and the architects prefer them to be jointed because there is little or no cracking with the jointing as opposed to plastering. Jointing also introduces less water to the building and the products are less caustic to the timber on contact. In the past, the architects have also had difficulty getting good plasterers. They use me because i'm a fussy ******* who will turn the job out on time (by working long days and weekends if required) and to a high standard.

i can do both tapeing and plastering and i found some builders like to tape because it means the can turn a job around faster paint straight away do second fix and the like with waiting for drying out less mess to

So becauce your just a taper you talk them outta doing a proper job?

I don't need to. My work comes to me.
I have always said that skimming is a better finish, but there aren't that many plasterers that can do a decent job of it. I make a fair living out of drylining but I wouldn't want it in my house.

Is tape an jointing that much faster than skimming? i think skimming give's you a far better finish over jointing
Nice job your on Tony.

that looks a krunt of a job tony, all that pissin bout on towers.

Not just that mate. I have to use a stop trim (i'm using No Coat L-trim) at the bottom of all walls leaving a 5mm shadow gap before they fix a 100mm slate skirting that finishes flush with the plasterboard. I'm running the boards horizontally and level with a taper at the bottom so once the L-trim goes on there isn't any noticeable flare against the back of the architrives. I have to put trim up against all the oak and have a curved wall and drywall cubby holes to build and tape. I don't mind doing it, it's just a bit time consuming.

Worked on site in watford once.taper priced an plasterer priced.plasterer was cheaper.with all the backwards an forwards rubbing down an shite.plaster was quickest an best job.also over years proper builders go for skim cos sometimes clients wallpaper an wjen they strip to redecorate they take plasterboard paper off as well so have to pay to get it skimmed.anybody that says tape is better cant skim an are pratts an should go back to bus driving.its cheap is all an nasty like theapplier

I've seen loads more s**t skimming than tape jointing .......if I had to take the chance and had to pick one I'd prefer tape jointing loads of so called plasterers are absolutely dogshit

i'd much prefer to tape a big house than skim it. Its always spreads who can't tape that get on their high horse cos they cant do it

The pool is just block at the moment. I can ask the architects about the finishes for it.
